So what programs are you guys using to do these drawings? I've got an idea I'd like to draw up.

Mainly, Inkscape. Nice enough and free.

Then I mess with the bezier tool for the outline.

Just scale a frontal picture of the guitar using the scale as reference.

Hey, I was just wondering how difficult it is to change the neck scale on a template. I really dig short scales (I have a jag and a les paul) I'm assuming that the bridge would have to be moved closer to the neck? As you can tell ive never built a guitar but I'm trying to learn as much as I can before I start. Any help would be appreciated :)

Changing scale is easy, just move the bridge fwd to the correct distance. Depending on the guitar, pickups may need repositioned.

Hello! This isnt really a custom design or anything, but I need a bit of and tought this would be hte most indicated place. Can someone provide a jazzmaster with tele bridge pickguard template? I Don't mean a telemaster, I really mean a jazzmaster pickguard with a tele bridge cut. I can't find it anywhere and I can't draw it accurately. :fp:

Do you need just the pickguard cutted to a tele plate, or the whole thing?

You can pick the pickguard (and the whole thing) drawings here (on pdf format):

http://www.gitarrebassbau.de/viewtopic. ... t=6#p18566

If you already have the tele plate you can draw on top of the printed pdf (just make sure of the scale 1:1) and make your custom template.

I needed the pickuard cut to a tele plate, in a way that both together would cover the bridge pickup hole, yep. Thanks a lot for the website, this is the second time you save me!

I just found this old thread! Thank you Guys, here is my contribution.
But be aware that these drawings are as good as the photos I found on the net. ...not perfect!

Some words about me and my drawings. As a hobbist I have built electric basses and guitars for the last six years. Unfortunately it's difficult for me to do it now, because I'm working for the next years in foreign countries, far from my tools. I begun to search the net for shapes beside the mainstream, looking for forgotten designs but strange and worth enough to remember. Or very simple shapes like the "Thin Twin" or the "Stratotone". Mostly designs from no longer existing companies, or model series run out a long time ago. I use pictures I find in the net and I use Inkscape to reduce the pictures to drawings, that I may use in the future to copy the Instruments. But I allways make changes to the original designs. Not the shapes of the bodies, but electronics, Hardware, size, accessories, shape of the headstock and finishes. I like semi hollow intruments and f-holes. I don't like pickguards as a must, they should have a sense as a design element or they should have a function to cover crazy electronics. They should never cover beautiful wood.

So, all of my drawing are reduced to my personal preferrations.

Kay K161 Thin Twin but with a standard 57mm neck heel.
