Several cool projects planned for 2011... including THIS!
A BASS V seems like a daunting project, largely due to the scarcity of original parts, and the total absence of suitable replacements. On the other hand, making a BASS IV should prove much simpler:
Maybe like THIS:
Then use a standard bridge cover and pickup cover from a Jazz Bass:
Hopefully someone more skilled than myself can do a better mockup.
I want to keep the BASS V headstock shape as well, just in a four-string configuration. And yes, I want to keep it 15- frets. That's plenty enough for rock n' roll!

I can't figure out the attraction to this body-style.
If there's some sort of design asthetic, it's lost on me.
That said, rock on!

I've been to one World's Fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing i ever heard come out a pair of headphones.

Where the fudge do you get templates for something like that from? scaling it up from photos is prob the most accurate you can get? I guess they dont come around too often to trace.

The good news is, you already have the bridge and pickup covers...
I finally finish building a guitar, go to play it, and then remember, "oh yeah, that's right. I suck at playing... Why did I build another guitar again?"

ooh. I remember seeing that thread last week. Living in the UK our pawn shops do not tend to have old american guitars in them, ever. Only cheap far eastern ones that have been bought in to sell on new, and occasionally an encore or peavey or something like that. I remember seeing a thread on another forum about a member who bought an early 50's les paul with staple pickups in a right state in a pawn shop for less than $1000, maybe less than $500 (cant remember now). That just doesnt seem to happen here! however it is possible to find old radios and stereo systems full of partridge iron and Mullards for nothing.
