Here's my current project, in my parents basement as I'm home from school for the foreseeable future :bored:
Image

Squier J Mascis neck and pickguard going onto a Classic vibe body with an AVRI Vibrato. I liked the neck on my JMJM and I don't mind the sound of it, but I wasn't a huge fan of the color and it was kind of heavy. This body is much lighter, and I'm a sucker for sunburst. My Am Pro bridge came in and I started piecing it together.

Soldering is still a somewhat new thing to me, and I'm a bit confused on grounding (?) but I'm keen to start on it. Quick question though, has anyone had experience with the JMJM pickguard going onto a a body with the traditional bridge? Doesn't seem like its gonna fit smoothly without a little bit of filing.

Could also go for a new pickguard, but I kinda dig the 50s vibe of the gold on the sunburst

That's an interesting one. How does that neck attach? Does the neck have a step on it to keep it from slipping too deep into the pocket?

I honestly have no idea. That's the only bit I have from what obviously used to be a snazzy Tonika bass:

It seems somebody enlarged the pickup cavities at some point, and maybe tried to fit a new pickguard on the thing, but I don't think they touched the neck pocket, which only has two screw holes. I'll take more pictures of it. But this thing is so fucking weird I feel I have to bring it back to life, somehow. :)

It was given to me by a customer who told me I might be interested in that, uh, 'thing he got at a car boot sale twenty years ago'. Pretty cool stuff.

I did a search and evidently it's Soviet-made. The neck does look like it has a notched heel. What a cool project. I look forward to seeing how you do with it.

^^^According to my trusty "Electric Guitar In The USSR" reference work: "...the three-piece beech neck is connected to the body with two bolts only, drilled through a recessed metal neckplate into a plate that's immured below the fretboard and doubles as a truss rod stopper." :) :freako: (Also, 31.5" scale, apparently...)
