I second this. Rgand knows what he's talking about.

yesterday i have try it on my amp sound different than my others this one is a little brighter and powerfull than the black (av65 in ) and less rounder than my sparkle (pickups wizard in), i think it have more high and mid than 2 others ,need to compare to my white who have the same neck pick up

If anyone is in need of parts for any of their projects and you didn't see this yet, eBay has a 20% off virtually everything (minimum $50 purchase) sale for father's day. Code is PICKDADSGIFT
I grabbed an AVRI trem, vintage tuners, and a new mustang bridge for $120 total. FYI - you can stack discounts. I got mine from the seller guitarpartsfactoryus and they do a 10% off deal if you buy 3 items plus the 20% on top of that.

Oh Jesus I’m totally lost then shitalkalineHemlock wrote: ↑Mon Jun 04, 2018 11:39 pmI think it's more a matter of mixing raw metallic flake into clearcoat yourself, but there may be pre-mixed clears out there. In any case, good luck to you! Looking forward to the end result!Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Sun Jun 03, 2018 7:56 pmThanks! Yeah that’s what made sense to me - the flake being in the clear coat. This is definitely a thing though? Gonna look at where I can buy some flake. If reranch doesn’t do a thing I have access to a paint gun rig at work so I could definitely use that, it’d just be a matter of finding the stuff to spray out of it.alkalineHemlock wrote: ↑Sun Jun 03, 2018 5:27 pm
For a sparkle finish like this, you're right in assuming that a base coat of the desired color is usually the way to go. For a surf-green color, the best option is probably to get a spray gun and mix in the metal flake with the clearcoat so that the particles are trapped in the clear, but I know that Krylon and some other rattle can companies make glitter spray paint that's good for the basic colors out there.

That's the way Danelectro / Silvertone did it too I think!Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 3:54 pmOh Jesus I’m totally lost then shitalkalineHemlock wrote: ↑Mon Jun 04, 2018 11:39 pmI think it's more a matter of mixing raw metallic flake into clearcoat yourself, but there may be pre-mixed clears out there. There's mixed sparkle clears out there
(Duplicolor and Rust-o-leum come to mind) but you could also get clear and some flake and mix it into a preval if you want spraycans.
Premixed clears with flakes for a sprayrig I don't know much about. There's this tho':
In the end, if you want nitro, you'll probably have to mix it yourself.

Not worried about nitro at all. From what I’ve heen told Flake and nitro don’t mix well. I just want it to look cool. I was really hoping to just be able to buy a can or two of some already existing stuff but it’s proving to be harder than I figured.

Steadyriot's suggestion of the Preval sprayer is a good one. In years past, I have used them to touch up paint on airplanes (Dupont Imron) as well as stuff around the home. They're essentially rattle cans you mix yourself. They shoot just about any kind of paint although I haven't tried them with flakes. You may want to give them a try. When you're done, you can clean them with solvents and re-use them for another purpose.Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Sat Jun 09, 2018 7:03 amNot worried about nitro at all. The duplicolor is fine metallic so probably not what you want. Roth Metal Flake sells dry flake to mix in your clear. They also sell spray can flake that's pretty good size that you may like.
https://rothmetalflake.com /collections It takes a pretty big tip on a spray gun to shoot large flake.

Re: What's on your workbench right now?
The co-op bike shop I belong to has a bigass bench vise, so yesterday I finally got around to taking my MIJ JM with replacement trem arm over there to tweak it. I cut a little section of bike inner tube to protect the end of the arm from the jaws of the vise, clamped it, gave the arm a little tweak, then checked it back in the guitar. Surprisingly I got it right on the first try. Now the arm sits where I want it.

Totally forgot to mention this recently left the bench! One of my most nutter builds so far. Fun, detailed, video of me me discussing and demoing it with another lutheir (its new owner) too.

Amazing guitar, love the curves and the meck, and the sound is great! I love pretty much everything about this one.verhoevenc wrote: ↑Mon Jun 11, 2018 4:11 pmTotally forgot to mention this recently left the bench! One of my most nutter builds so far. Would you mind posting a link again to your webpage? I keep wanting to show your guitars to friend but I can never remember where to find them
I only have a instagram account, @uptone_guitars
I’m changing name soon, so obviously, the account name will change too.
