The back, with more of the alligator vinyl (there will also be a white back with a slightly different layout of the same vinyl)
Gut shot- the back is held on magnetically, and neck bolts/ truss rod/ pickup adjust/ trem adjust/ string change are all accessed from inside (lots of tidying up/ shielding etc yet to do):

Unholy motherfucking Frankenstein... what the hell is this?!
Is there already a dedicated thread about this insanely cool build I have somehow managed to miss up 'til now?!
If so, please post a link, in case there's not, I speak for myself and probably also for many of those who are now silently lurking around: WE are compelled to ask you for a full blown article 'cause, as sure as hell, WE're gonna following it with oozing interest.
On a side note, my brain has just unarbitrarily decided that this guitar has been pinned-named as "Magneto".
Inspiring work, man.

Re: What's on your workbench right now?
I'll second that - a build thread would be really nice, I know your previous posts about it are somewhere in the WOYWRN discussion but it would be nice to have it all in one place. That's one of the guitars on this board that has me thinking about it every so often and hope it'll be complete soon so I can take a good look at it. Just my kind of odd / art deco instrument. That back is incredible, you really nailed that fragile ballet of shapes & textures (hey, that's another one for the metaphor police).

I don't know if this should better be posted under the Vintage Restoration section but anyway, here's my very first guitar.
It's a spanish guitar labelled "Pedro" by D.N.C. I've got for X-mas in 1993.
Did some fret levelling, dyed the fretboard with Fiebing's, fixed the piezo I've put a few years ago under the soundboard:
I've also cut a pickguard out of some perspex I had lying around and still debating about weather or not put it to protect the finish the is already falling out.
It has been painted black with some relicing to better match the age of the poor sod, here's a mock-up:
What do you vote for? Pickguard on or Pickguard off?

I think it looks a little strange with the black guard. Maybe clear would work.

I'll have to cut a new one or either strip this one back to clear (not that it would be an issue whatsoever), my only concern would be how to attach it without being the glue being visible... Superglue leaves a visible blotch on the back...countertext wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 6:29 amI think it looks a little strange with the black guard. Maybe clear would work.

Fair enough. I don’t have any idea how clear guards are mounted, now that you mention it!Amon 7.L wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 6:58 amI'll have to cut a new one or either strip this one back to clear (not that it would be an issue whatsoever), my only concern would be how to attach it without being the glue being visible... My concern may be based on traditionalist ideas of how nylon-string usually guitars look versus visual cues that are associated with steel-string guitars. Which is to say: if you like it, do it.

Very cool. Looking forward to seeing a baritone neck in progress one of these days.

Hell yeah to both of those! Niksureal, is that some kind of pine? Really cool shape. I keep telling myself I'll make a Phantom-ish guitar next and something always gets in the way.
Funkyeah, what's the story behind this one? And what is that trem? Triple approval for that headstock.

Thanks! Headstock is like a weird mish mash of the Loog and Starcaster headstock. Trem is a Gotoh 510 thing? https://g-gotoh.com/product/ev510t-bs/?lang=enepizootics wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 10:48 pmHell yeah to both of those! Niksureal, is that some kind of pine? I wanted an all-rounder but don't like strats visually. Too samey. But the ergonomics of a strat are great. I had a more tele based build I recently did but found the neck humbucker was hard to deal with live. This'll be strat neck and middle with a tele bridge pickup. And a freeway switch so I can do neck and bridge together.
Rookie mistake with the wood but my all alder glue joints apparently weren't quite 90* all the way down the edge. Cut a centerblock from it and added Spanish Cedar wings. I have another guitar with a SC body and maple top that resonates reaaaally well. And it's lighter, which is good for 4 hour shows.
