That looks useful. You could customize it for whatever you want. Good idea. I would definitely cut the cup holder into it.

Yeah, I definitely keep leaning towards cutting the cupholder. I could probably line it with some cheap cork or something too, so I could change it as well.

What about one of the stainless or plastic cup holder inserts like they use in an RV? Lift it out and clean it now and then.

I love that idea, but I'd want some that were shallower than 2.16". I also worry about the width as I drink chai tea frequently from a big frosty mug with a wide base. I'll have a look around for stuff though. Thanks for the idea!

I've been working on restoring a friends guitar, for some reason Australian punks love cutting up strats.

I'm also revisiting a baritone I build as a jaguar. I wasn't happy with it, so I'm reworking it as a Jazzmaster.

It looks like your work was cut out for you. What were those ring marks on that top? And how much did you have to take off to clean it up? Nice to get that cleaned up, eh?

Just get one of the plastic ones and cut it shallower. Unless you go through the top completely, it won't need the lip. You could even put a piece of that cork in the bottom of it.

Funny you should say that. Here's a picture of my Aussie bandmate from his Civil Civic days:

He also plays a guitar with an Ibanez Roadstar neck on which he got rid of the lower portion of the headstock. It actually looks a lot better than the original.

How's the rehabilitation of the garage going?

Stalled, we need a good summer day to do a garage sale so I can clear everything out and put it on the lawn. Don't even get me started on under the house.

Router burns, the bit dropped in a few places :/

Got an orbital sander with 40 grit, it's smoothing it all out nicely in conjunction with the plane.

Yeah, I understand a bit dropping. I've had a bit wander in the chuck a couple times and totally trash something. Now I lean on the spanner as hard as I can to tighten it and no more issues. With that at least. ;D

Orbital sanders really can do a nice job. The one I had disappeared years ago and I have yet to replace it. Correction, I have one air driven one but it's only partly up to the job. Works fine on metal, though.

put humbucker covers and black knobs/switch on my player series jazzmaster. had to trim pickguard which was sketchy but it came out ok. really happy with it. I think it should have come from fender like that.

opening it up, the shielding and conductive paint were done nicely. it seems to only be routed for humbuckers (in case anyone was wondering). also no routing for jazz circuit. if anyone else wants to do this, you also may have to route/dremel the hole for the bridge pickup just a little bit. after putting the cover on it was hitting the front (closest to neck) wall of the route.

I might try that. I'm in no hurry to get it all figured out. I might find something else I really like between now and then. But I love the idea!! Thanks dude!
