I don’t have a workbench but I have disassembled my Bullet Mustang and am starting the pickup swap to Filtertrons. As always I have opened it and found the shitty shielding and am now first going to give it a proper copper tape shielding.
The pickups surprisingly fit the humbucker routs, I will even have to enlarge them 1-2mm. I’m simply going to mount them to the wood...

Too rainy and windy to spray so I worked on some pickguards
I'm not sure where to go with the bound top but I'm leaning towards the half guard.
The guard on the supro style with the bigsby is my design
I'm not 100% but so far I think I like it.
Its going to be a vintage supro Kingston style pickup in the brige and p90 in the neck.
Bigsby is upgraded with Toner hinge plate.

Really cool - I like the compact shape and the way it gets busy with all the hardware on it!nnieman wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2019 5:16 amToo rainy and windy to spray so I worked on some pickguards

I'll keep that in mind! If people would be interested to see that (or at least more detailed pictures of some cool things I've made, I'd be happy to do that!Rgand wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2019 6:53 amI look forward to seeing that. One is not enough, I will need to glue two together and pre-drill. Two attempts failed, they break too fast... but today the copper shielding tape will be delivered, so that comes first.higgsblossom wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2019 9:07 amDIY English mount: popsicle sticks. My project for the evening...
I will post pictures soon. And I think that while I'm at it, I will sand off the Squier headstock decal and let my wife design a custom decal.

Re: What's on your workbench right now?
I posted this in another post about a wiring question I had, but I got it all sorted out and now it's sounding great!
It's a '62 AVRI Jazzmaster. I added Fralin Hum Cancelling pickups, a Mastery vibrato, Staytrem bridge, gold anodized pickguard, Tele knobs, Emerson pots and tone cap. It's wired up to have dual volume controls for neck and bridge, a standard tone control, and an added bass cut control. The slide switch changes between two capacitor values for medium to high bass cut. Frankly, the bass cut doesn't seem to do a whole lot! I feel like others who have added this control have said similarly. Anyway, it's my favorite guitar again!

It's all part of building guitars (and other stuff) for me. I must join tool junkies anonymous one of these days.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2019 1:11 amI'll keep that in mind! Re: What's on your workbench right now?
I've been working on cleaning up under the house at my grandparents home in Midway Point. My grandfather used this bench to build the house he and nanna have lived in since 1960. I'm so proud of him because he is the man who sparked my passion for carpentry. I love them both dearly.
Soon I'll have a decent space to be able to work on my guitars in peace, and I still get Wi-Fi from the house!

This happened to me too, when I was attempting to mount a filtertron in my Musicmaster. I ended up just screwing it into the body inadvertently and left it, and it sounds amazing in that guitar. Like drawing with a big, fat sharpie that can still do little details if you know how to angle it just right.higgsblossom wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2019 1:56 amOne is not enough, I will need to glue two together and pre-drill. Re: What's on your workbench right now?
The old Yamaha SA5, SA20, SA30 and SA50 have a rosewood or ebony bridge base. The bridge base is quite a nice piece of workmanship and is not easily made from scratch. The bottom of the bridge is angled in two dimensions so that it follows the contours of the arched top it is resting on. It is screwed onto the guitar body while the posts are screwed into the bridge base to allow the metal Tune-o-matic to sit on top.
You can buy generic timber bridge bases at Stewmac or so for about $20, but they look different and their post spacing does not allow for an original Yamaha SA30 tune-o-matic.
I recently bought an old busted up SA30 with something that really could not be called an archtop bridge. It needed something better...
So I pulled the orginal bridge base from one of my SA30s and decided to copy it and make my own. Blimey, 3.5 hours later and I do have a rather nice (if I say so myself), brand new bridge base. Just need to source the screws and the posts but trying it with the original bits...
All fits perfectly on the old Superaxe and looks rather 'original'. Here some photos.
Top one is the original rosewood base.

That's fantastic SuperAxe!! I love seeing bits made from scratch like that! Does it sound any different on your original guitar than the original factory bridge base?
