Bass VI Pickups

Post by thewizardofaz » Tue Mar 13, 2007 1:52 pm

I just got two AVRI Fender pups from Angela Instruments for 90 dollars the pair. Pretty good deal. Now all I have to do is find a third. I'm curious if anyone has ever tested the outuput of Bass VI pups. I'm assuming the bridge pup is the hotter of the three. Is the middle one reversese wound or is it just another neck pup?

nothing technical, just from playing my bass VI, but I don't get the impression that any of the  pups are hotter than the others.  There is certainly a tonal difference (bridge less bassy than neck) but as far as hotness, no I don't get that.

Also I don't think the middle is reverse wound....  don't appear to get any noise cancellation with any combo... remember there are three pups and all 3 can be on at the same time, so reverse middle would not be totally noise cancelling anyway with the other two on.
relaxing alternative to doing actual work ...

I have a Bass VI RI and a CS 2006.  I don't know on the RI, but the CS 2006 for sure has the middle pu reverse wound.

I am seriously thinking about getting Curtis to knock up a set of pickups for my VI. Not sure if they should be any different to normal Jag PUs.

I was going to get Lollar to make a set, but he doesn't have and cannot get covers and claws. Plus, at $90 per pickup, that's just spendy as hell. I have a set of his in my daphne JM that really rock though, so I am torn. So many decisions.
