Re: Series mod for Jaguar
Alright, thanks. I'll have some results soon, maybe soundclips if I can be bothered.
Anyone else done the phase switch mod too? If so, do you find it more useful than the strangle switch? The strangle provides a really subtle difference thing (unless you have a pedal that reacts to it a lot), but it's useful when recording I find. I'm pretty much only doing the phase switch mod because I wanted to leave the original switches as they were and didn't feel like finding the right cap. Also curioisity

Re: Series mod for Jaguar
i had the pickups in a JM wired out of phase for a while. it was a pretty cool sound, bright but not too bright. very good if you want a steve albini-esque sound.

This mod might be interesting on the Bass VI.
Alfred, give it a try...

It would be, might be complicated with 3 switches though. I did it, and it sounds great in all positions, but it cuts out sometimes when I switch to the series positions. Dodgy switches? Messy wiring? I'll find out soon...

Re: Series mod for Jaguar
The other day i decided to wire up a spare control plate and switches like the diagram with phasing,only to realize when i had done it you cant turn either pickup off at all.
So that put an end to it for me.
There is another couple of ways to wire a jag with phasing that Ive done and have standard switches and controls,but not with series parallel etc
So this wiring is shit if ya cant turn it off imo.

What do you mean? I can have neck pickup and bridge pickup solo, those are just like the normal positions...corona wrote: The other day i decided to wire up a spare control plate and switches like the diagram with phasing,only to realize when i had done it you cant turn either pickup off at all.

But on is series and on is parallel so wheres off?
Or......am i missing something,is this "JUST'' series and off,and Not" series down and parallel up"?

Mine works like this:corona wrote: But on is series and on is parallel so wheres off?

t= towards your face
a= away from your face
aaa = in series, normal phase
taa = neck only
ata = bridge only
tta = in parallel, normal phase
aat = in series, phase reversed
tat = neck only
att = bridge only
ttt = in parallel, phase reversed
You can't have both off, but that's not a position you ever play in

Re: Series mod for Jaguar
Okay,I'm not familiar with series wiring is all.
Referring to using 1 pickup only: Essentially a pickup is being canceled out even though its in the ON position in parallel while you use the other in series?
If this is right this wiring is quite good.

Re: Series mod for Jaguar
I dont quite get what you mean, but...
If the PUS are single coils : one pickup can only be in series with another one, in parallel with another one, or out of phase in respect to another one.
So on a jag, if a pickup is disconnected, then the other just sounds like a single coil whatever the parallel/series/phase thing.

Re: Series mod for Jaguar
Ok, so you get one single coil on when its set like- bridge pup in series,neck in parallel ...this would mean the neck pup is on in regular parallel setting yea? And the bridge pup is off because it has nothing to complete the series wiring?

Re: Series mod for Jaguar
Basically, when you have both switches down (in regular wiring this is both off) it's in series. If you have both up it's in parallel, like normal. If you have the neck or bridge pickup switch up only, it's the neck or bridge pickup soloed, like normal. So you have all the regular settings, plus series in what is normally both off. You just lose the both off setting.

Re: Series mod for Jaguar
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I want to perform this mod on my jag and was wondering, if wires on the far right switch forming an X are soldered at each corner, and also the wire going to the screw, is this ground, or where does it go from there? Thanks and sorry again if this is bad to bump this old thread.

Re: Series mod for Jaguar
hmm, so someone else has done this too.
Since I didn't use the out of phase sound much, I wired my Mustang so that when both switches are in the position towards the neck (farther from the bridge) they are in series, but you have to have them both in that position. Interesting sound, but really not as good as a regular humbucker. This also means no more phase switching.
I am sure I drew a schematic by hand somewhere, but I don't know if I even kept it. It wouldn't be hard to figure out though, it's quite basic.
