I've just bought a set of used v-mod pickups for my 66 reissue jaguar but I didn't realise until now that they have 3 wires coming off then instead of 2.
Does anyone know what I can do with the extra wire? I would like to keep to the original switching configuration of possible.
Please help.

I believe that you just have one hot wire and two grounds (one for claw and one for pickup) so you can implement phase switching if you wanted to. If you don't, just connect both grounds to where you'd put them normally.

V-mods were designed for the Am Pro jag. With wiring to support the series and phase switching unique to that guitar. Both of which need the ability to switch where the ground side of the coil is connected. Hence the need to have a separate rather than shared ground wire for the claw (which is always grounded). Yep, two wires for phase switching. It’s totally a personal choice. I would like to add it to my guitar, but Humbucker/ tapped coils is good enough for me in combination with a treble bleed!

Wiring the claw ground to the shield rather than connecting it to the pickup ground is useful for series/parallel switching too, as well as phase switching
