I’m currently burying the headstock decal in clear. I’m hoping I have enough coats on there, but we’ll see once it’s fully cured and I start sanding.

Re: Charcoal Gray Bilindastang - Project Thread
Well, this project took a turn. My paint job was a little uneven, particularly on the upper horn where you could see a couple of lines when the body was held at an angle. Plus for some reason some light gray lines showed up on the bottom edge and I'm pretty sure they weren't sand throughs. I kept looking at it every day while it was hanging there, curing, and I decided it would drive me nuts. So I decided to paint it again.
While browsing online I found a Jazzmaster in a dark metallic blue that looked halfway between lake placid blue and charcoal gray, and the guy who did it said he used Duplicolor Medium Wedgewood Metallic. Sure, I thought, why not go for it! So I ordered three cans, picked up some more Watco clear from Home Depot, and repainted both the body and matching headstock this weekend.
It's an interesting color that looks basically like a slightly blue charcoal gray in normal light, then like dark metallic blue in direct sunlight. I took a photo of the body outside in the shade plus a photo of the headstock in direct sunlight so you can see the difference. I'm kind of diggin' it. I wish it were just a tiny bit more blue, but I also think the color will look great as the clear yellows a bit over time.
So now I'm back to waiting again until I can wet sand and polish.

That looks gorgeous! I'm also liking the Railhammers and and am excited to hear about the final product. Bring it on!

I don't use Fresh as an adjective for anything but produce... Yet I find it an apt descriptor for this new paint. Inspiring.

Thanks for the kind comments!
I just realized that there are all kinds of color artifacts in the photo of the body that aren't on the body itself. How strange.

Actually, the color artifacts shift or vanish every time I refresh the page. I think it's because I'm currently on a remote desktop. Please ignore me. Nothing to see here...

Re: Charcoal Gray Bilindastang - Project Thread
Here it is! I still need to work out a wiring issue and I need to dial in the setup a bit. I wish the color in normal light was closer to how it looks in direct sun (photo 2), but I'm digging it. I'm not entirely sold on the mint green guard, which I got when the guitar was going to be charcoal gray. I think parchment might look better against the blue, but it's a custom cut guard (a regular Mustang guard doesn't line up properly) and I'm not too excited to shell out more $ for another custom guard. So for now it's going to be mint green.
I love the feel of these Allparts Jaguar/Mustang necks. It's the right profile and thickness for me: substantial, but not "fat." I have the same neck on my parts Jaguar and love it.
I've only run it through a new 5f1 Tweed Champ clone I just picked up, but I like the Railhammer pickups so far. They're sensitive to small height adjustments, so I keep raising and lowering them slightly to see if I can find the exact right height. They both have their own thing going on, which is what I was hoping for.
Now, if I could only change the thread title so it no longer says "Charcoal Gray"!

Ah man that's beautiful! I love the Wedgewood Metallic, that's what I used on a JM a few years ago. Such a cool color and the overall look of your mustang, dressed with the guard and pickups - wow! Nicely done!!!!

Re: Charcoal Gray Bilindastang - Project Thread
Lovely guitar!! I LOVE mint and parchment guards more than tort or any other guard colors. This is one of the nicer ones I've seen in a while. Those 2 colors with all the chrome is just killer

In this photo, with the body colour more visible, I think it looks just fantastic in combo with the mint guard, and truly unique at the same time.
