Re: Yamaha SG-2 / SG-3 CAD and Blueprints
Ok guys,
So here it is, the SG2 Pickguard, with Jaguar pickup routes. I'll make a version with the original routes.
Again, all the measurements come from different pictures, and their exactitude needs to be adressed.
So if you guys have any clean shot without perspective, please get in touch !!
Of course, it is stored in the following drive :
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1kW23c ... K3HzUAfmiG
Cheers

Re: Yamaha SG-2 / SG-3 CAD and Blueprints
Hi guys,
There is a rather simple thing, you guys (owners of SG2 and SG3) could help me out with, which are :
The basic dimensions of the Body.
I need the length, width and Thickness of any SG2 and SG3 as shown in the next picture :
I have many pictures, but only one of them as a very little distortion ratio between the length and the width.
That means that the length/width I think are correct are : 491 mm / 342 mm, being a ratio around 1.435
I checked many pics, and the ratios vary from 1.43 to 1.46, and this value is crucial in order to get the body lines right (and pickguard), basically everything that makes the design of the guitar.
Length : Vary between 478 and 518 mm
Width : vary between 329 and 355 mm
Thanks for your help,
Aurel

Great idea!
If I can be of any help, shoot me a PM. I have multiple of these (and other Yamaha Sg models) i have an Sg-2 and Sg-3 in parts too so measurements should be easy for me if you need more.

Hey, I've got nothing to add really, just wondering if someone can tell me from first hand experience if these are quality guitars? I spoke with a guy one Instagram who owned one and he compared ´em to a 60's Jaguar. There's one for sale over here in Germany but not local. Been eyeing it for a while.

Re: Yamaha SG-2 / SG-3 CAD and Blueprints
Thanks for the reply Windmill, I am measured :
length 494 mm
Width 342 mm
So im off by 1,2% about the length and 2,2% about the width.
Which I still consider being distant from the Actual shape.
I am waiting for additional measurements from Surfin_Bird, He has 2 bodies that would help and pouplate these dimensions and establish if those guitar bodies were manufactured that accurately or if a 1 to 2 % margin is acceptable. Should the additional measurements in width and length be confirmed by Surfin_Bird, I'll update the model and include these changes in the Rev_C.
Gonna put up the Rev_B up right now
Cheers,
Aurel

All right Guys, here it is,
This Rev_B does not include any of the information that you guys gave me (so far). I am waiting on confirmations and additional dimensions that should come through PM,a dn will include them in ulterior Revisions.
Meanwhile, I will just put up the RevB on the thread.
It is a 494 by 342 body.
Cheers,
Aurel

Re: Yamaha SG-2 / SG-3 CAD and Blueprints
The RevB Body shape Is based on the following Image :
I adjusted most of the other features using the next pictures.
Always being careful to align the Bridge, 22d Fret and 12th Fret when available.
This technique gave me a pretty good accuracy when measuring the X axis features (alabout the length) axis, however, you never know if the proportions of an image are preserved, and the deformation factor of the camera angle is also a real difficulty when it comes to precise measurements and proportions.
So this is what I got so far, and from the pictures, you see that none of the body pictures I work with are actually a match, I selected the First SG2 because it gave me the less error margin from the bridge to the 22nd Fret and 22nd Fret to the 12th.
By doing this I don't manage to reach the 500 by 350 mm.
Cheers,
Aurel

Hi, I made the screaming yamahas blog ^^
And I will be glad to add your blueprints to it, if you are ok with that.
If it can help I have a sg-2 also.

Hi Frelonvert,
That sounds oddly french to me !! I am French myself...
Anyway, Feel free to add the drawing, the problem is that it is still a work in progress, still waiting for some measurements in order to update the whole drawing.
Probably will draw a shortscale 24" neck !! that'd be fun, anyway, I'll let you know when it's close to be finalised !!
Cheers,
Aurel

Re: Yamaha SG-2 / SG-3 CAD and Blueprints
Hi all,
Thank you so much for taking the time to measure, and presumably to take your guitar apart in order to producre the measurements !!
Thast is enough for me to start updating the blueprints.
Hope other owners will post their measurements, it's important to have more in order to establish a solid baseline.
Will let you know as soon as I have something ready !
Cheers
