Johnny Marr Bridge Fit American Professional Plastic Bushings?

Post by RoséBear » Tue Feb 11, 2020 7:58 am

Hey guys,

Finally got ahold of a Johnny Marr bridge and I have a question regarding a little experiment I’m going to try.

The plastic bushings that go in the thimbles on newer American fenders, will the Johnny Marr bridge fit right into those? Thanks!

While I think it was known that MIJ thimbles do not necessarily match MIA thimbles exactly (sometimes / always ?), I believe this is the first time it has been suggested that the Marr thimbles and/or posts are a different size to MIA (AFAIK we don't actually know where the Marr bridge is made, either the original one or the more recent narrower 52mm E-E one). It would have to be the ID of the thimbles or the OD of the posts that do not match. You can measure what you have to verify.

Very interesting. I’ve tried them with a MIJ bridge and that worked pretty okay. I’m guessing the biggest possibility is maybe the posts will be too larger, in which case I’ll shave off some of the ID of the washers.

The thimbles I’ll be placing these in, are MIA thimbles. So it’ll fit in there just fine. It’s just a matter of getting the Marr bridge snug. I’ll update this thread as soon as the Marr bridge is delivered

For anyone wanting to use the Johnny Marr bridge with the American pro nylon bushings, the posts are too thick, so you’ll have to take some material off the bushings on the inner hole to fit the bridge.

Best!

Anybody with this bridge and some cheap digital calipers willing to take and post some measurements? That would be a lot more helpful.
