Restoring a Dimarzio Rail's paint

Post by javierfarias » Wed Jan 29, 2020 9:15 am

Hello!

I just acquired a Dimarzio Fast Track Rails pickup, but the previous owner removed the black paint of the top of the rails, leaving the magnet exposed (it still has the side of the rails painted). Would it be posible to repaint the rails black without compromising the pickup? I was thinking about using black nail paint.

Here is an actual photo of the pickup:

Thanks for your help!

Black nail paint would probably flake off... I'd try black automotive touch up paint, with the brush in the cap. Maybe a black paint pen although it might not be very shiny.

You need paint specifically designed to bond to plastics, otherwise it'll fall off.

I've painted pickguards with the stuff and it's held up for ~10 years.
