This is discouraging. I was planning on sending my MIJ P-Bass body to them, but can’t be without it for a year. That’s ridiculous.

I have NEVER heard of anybody having to wait that long. I've never heard of anybody (myself included) waiting more than 4 months, and that's after a peak backlog after a big sale/special.
I'm not sure what the issue is with the poster above who said he sent his body in last January, but that seems REALLY odd and completely out of my experience. I've used them 7 times and have never had ANY problems with communication, unreasonable time, etc.

I wish I had just used MJT when I had the chance. It's been six months, but I used a small guy. I got the body back but the headstock needed to be redone, and that's what I've been waiting for. Next time it's MJT and who cares about the cost.

I've also got several MJT bodies around (2 JMs, 2 Strats) - keep in mind that the finishes on those are Nitro - very brittle and very thin. They look great if you like a worn, vintage guitar vibe, but even if you order the "Closet Clean", they'll chip and flake if you even so much as look at them!

Forgot to update for anyone interested. Received the body last month. It looks GREAT, but it took 371 days from the date I sent it to them till the day I got it back.

I'm glad that you were at least able to receive it. I'm glad it wasn't a total loss.

It looks like a good job. I'll remember them for the time when I don't have any deadline. At all.

Re: Guitar Paint Guys, How long did it take?
I am approaching the 8-month mark while waiting for my order from GuitarPaintGuys. When I placed the order, the confirmation email said the wait would be "3 to 6+ months." So, I knew it would likely take awhile, but it's still frustrating that the process is so slow. After 4 months, I emailed to ask if I could expect the order in the next few months, or if it would be longer than that. I got a response 3 days later that it had been sanded and the base coats applied.
Over two months later, I saw a photo of my project on their Facebook page. Three weeks after seeing the Facebook photo, I emailed again to see if it was almost ready to ship. I got a response 2 days later stating that it was getting the top coat applied. It's now been over two weeks since that last update, but no shipment yet.
I do appreciate that they wrote back to both of my emails within 2-3 days with updates. It seems like they are trying to be more responsive to inquiries. However, they also deleted some of my comments on their social media channels, which I think is ridiculous. I was not complaining or being critical. In fact, I wasn't even addressing GuitarPaintGuys at all. Another person and I were commenting back and forth, talking about what we ordered and how long we've each been waiting. The tone was actually quite positive, with each of us saying how good their finishing work appears to be and talking about how excited we were to get our painted bodies back. Within an hour of posting our comments, they had all been deleted for some reason. I guess they didn't like customers having an open conversation about the current wait times for all to see...
Their prices are excellent, and they offer a ton of cool and unique finish options. I just think they need to be more honest and upfront with customers about how long it's going to take. Claiming it will take as little as 3-6 months is essentially false advertising if the reality is more like 9-12 months. They get defensive online about how busy they are, but maybe their queue wouldn't be so long if people knew the accurate wait times.

Re: Guitar Paint Guys, How long did it take?
Yeah, I was seduced by the gorgeous photos on their web site, but fortunately they told me they refuse to ship to me, as though Canada was the moon. There are actually six entire states in the CONUS that are farther from their shop than I am - Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, California and Florida, as well as NYC, most of New England, and every major city in Texas.
I was bummed at first, because few shops seemed to do sparkle finishes as brilliantly as them, but in the end they probably saved me from myself. Stike at Rowyco managed to move to an entirely new shop (during which he declined to take any new orders including mine), strip and refinish my entire guitar, and send it back to me in roughly half the time it takes GuitarPaintGuys to complete a finish on a brand new body.
Victims of their own success, I suppose. They do such nice work that they've got a long enough queue to keep them unconcerned about things like yearlong turnarounds. They're like contractors, taking a job and then pausing it to take 15 other jobs because they know you can't get someone else to finish what they started.

I’m glad they are replying with updates now. I would have been ok with the wait if they would have just emailed me back
