Paint shops that'll do a colour match?

Post by August » Sat Aug 31, 2019 7:13 am

Wondering where OSGers would send a body for an accurate custom-matched (from a picture) paint job. I don't have access to nitro lacquer colours or I would experiment myself. I'd kind of like to nail this for my next Jazzmaster project rather than settle on the closest Dupli-Color rattle can etc.

The colour I'm looking for is a Novo Guitars finish called Firemist Green. Looks to be very high in fine metallic particles or possibly a type of modern pearlescent?

I can't imagine it would be cheap, but try your local car body shops. I've got a family guy that I go to for all my car stuff, and I bet he'd be willing to do a quick spray for cash if they were already spraying a color, or maybe a bit more cash for a custom color.

I've approached two local places in the past re having an IBM finish done and each quoted me ~$650 CAD... and recommended I explore other options (they weren't just trying to gouge).

I think I'd prefer a nitro cellulose finish for this one anyhow... something that I can break in (naturally) myself as the years progress.

I totally get that considering the skills those guys have. I'd probably just see if they had any cool colors coming up and see if you could get an extra couple sprays to cover the guitar. Where are you located? There may be some OSG painters near you...

Yeah, we're friendly enough (and they're small enough) that I could probably get on a call list for when/if something similar comes through. I'm in AB, Canada.

A lot of forumites here sent their bodies to MJT and the results were pretty high quality for what I've seen.

You can provide them pics of what you're after and they do the job. They're specialized in nitro finishes and also offer several options in terms of aging/relic as well.

Ah, thanks. I'd forgotten about them. I will get in touch.

If you are in Europe, I’d definitely say Rexter in the UK! Top class work and prices, and a nice person to do business with.
