The real Jag-stang

Post by supersonicjazzmaster » Wed Aug 21, 2019 7:55 am

Hi,

I have a 1997 Jagstang since many years. I bought it already with a 1962 DuoSonic Pickup in the neck position.
In the bridge position there was a hole and a cheap no name pickup which I´ve sold.
I installed a 1965 Mustang tremolo unit, which works perfect! ...and a Staytrem bridge. :)

When I think about the name Jag-Stang I see a mix between Jaguar and Mustang also soundwise, which means to me "no humbucker".
I have to say that I play single coils to 99,5%.
So the combination of two single coils makes sense to me.
Even two Jag PU´s would make sense to me. But there is the ´62 DuoSonic neck PU, which I definitely keep in this guitar.

The senseless strange plug in piece in the pickguard was already installed... :fp:

I Installed a piece of pickguard to close the hole at the bridge PU area (not the same material and refreshingly unprofessional but working  ...)
...and I installed a Pickupwizard Jaguar bridge pickup (with a black Strat pickup cover).
Now I have problems with the complete setup. I need the bridge pickup higher and nearer to the strings...
...but this seems not possible because of the Mustang style pickup height construction.

I have a 1965 Mustang red tort pickguard here. It fits not exactly... Just for color comparison. ( I will not butcher-cutting this for a Jag PU!)

Now my thoughts and questions to everyone, about this guitar. What would you recommend from your experiences?:

Installing a complete Jaguar pickup? --For this I have to cut out the original pickguard more for the bigger PU covers, and drill holes
into the body. With this option I can easy get the height what I want/need.
...it is a players guitar already! And it needs to get played more.
And the original pickguard looks great to me.

Get a complete new pickguard:
Where can I find a nearly exact looking with pearloid pickguard??

Or, other pickguard in red or brown tortoise?
Like this here:

this white one looks not so good for me:

Anyway, when I have new pickguard I also have to cut it for a Jaguar pickup...
What do you think about this all?

Thanks for your opinons!

Cheers!

Great neck!!! Nice Jagstang.

I would go with a red tort and the full jaguarpickup.

I also have a sonicblue jagstang and a red tort pickguard considering to put both together...
