Help finding a decent looking tortoise shell sheet

Post by dune736 » Fri Jul 26, 2019 7:43 am

Does anyone know where I can find a decent looking tortoise shell pickguard sheet big enough for a jazzmaster guard?
I'm not looking for Spitfire quality. PVC is fine, but I don't want it to look like something printed on a inkjet.
Something more natural looking is what I'm aiming for. Guitar part sites like Stew mac sell stuff that looks like baby poo.
Any info would be appreciated

Here's a listing with great choices on Amazon. I've bought from these folks several times and the quality is good. Mouse over the choices and you can see what they look like. There are two torts on the lower row that look pretty nice.

There's a repeating pattern in that red tort. Without scale, it's hard to tell how noticeable it would be, but it's definitely a print job for what it's worth.

On the other hand, I've had a Musiclily guard before, and they’re one of the better cheap options.

I had to go back and look at that tort you were talking about. The ones I saw were on the right side of that row. I had missed the other one on the left. Yes, that one is definitely a repeating pattern. I wouldn't want that either.

I've used the 4 ply tort, and it's actually really nice. I highly recommend it!

The first, third and forth pics are from George heinl in Toronto.
Its small and thin - I stick it to a sheet of 1 ply. Its too small for a full sized tele guard but great for la cabronita etc

The second pic red tort from amazon.

This is the ey guitars 4 ply

It photographs really dark but it all looks brighter in person.
