Found a pic of neck pocket in mine.
Why cant i edit my posts? Does that option come after 50 posts?
THIS!
Invaluable reference - thank you SO much, for posting that!! 8)
Good to know. I'll add it to my resource folder. This makes me less determined to make it happen, but I will still explore bringing it down a little - I think it can handle it...

Nothing too exciting to report, but we had a stretch of hot/dry weather, so I figured I'd get ahead of myself and shoot some black, while I can.
Headstock matching begins!

Image

• surface roughed/prepped
• all taped off
• a few layers of black - I forgot to clean my nozzle and ended up with a few spatters :fp:
• rubbed down with 0000 steel wool - spatters are gone. nice, even surface again

Next:
• a shot of clear
• logo - luckily, it arrived in the mail, today!
• a few shots of clear
• steel wool
• hand polish

Cool project! The neck angle on my MP Coronado is exactly the same.
Totally room to lower the pocket, it all depends on what break angle you want over the bridge.

Thanks for the kind words!
I spoke with the Luthier it's going to and the man totally gets these guitars. We're all systems-go, for a drop-off, next week. He's going to do a couple passes (if necessary) to take the neck pocket back until the neck angle seems "right". We'll know better once the trem and bridge is routed and installed with the neck.
I'm excited!

Hey, thanks. I've almost forgotten about this project, tbh. It's been with the Luthier for routing for so long now, hahahaha
I know he's super busy and I'm not in a rush, so it's all good - I know his work is worth the wait. I spoke with him fairly recently, so hope to start updating soon.

So I guess if there's an official update it would be: GLACIAL-PACE

Oh that's cool as hell. Has there ever been any production models of anything (Fender or boutique) that's a hollow/semi-hollow body with JM pickups? I know some people think that they are pretty trebly, and I wonder how they would sound on a hollow. Good I'd bet...

The Pawn Shop Offset Special that they made for a few years had a semi-hollow body and JZHB stacked humbucker...so the answer to your question is either "yes" or "no" depending on whether you mean "JM pickup" in terms of shape or tone. Shape - yes. Tone - no.

As for boutique, Bilt has made plenty of Zaftigs with JM pickups.

Bilt is probably more in line with what I'm thinking. More traditional style JM pickups on a hollow-body. I've never played one. I'm sure they don't sound like a JM exactly, but are the pickups pretty cool sounding on a hollowbody?

I haven't played that combo in person but it sounds pretty good here...
