Quick question - if one were to replace the strangle switch functionality on a Jaguar to something that placed a 250k resistor from signal to ground, would that emulate the effects of having a 250k volume and tone control?

Yes, you can replace a volume+tone circuit with fixed resistors and a cap.

Look up the "Leo bassy circuit" used on the early Telecaster Esquires, a switch position that would allow a guitarist to fake a bass guitar. Complaints about it being too dark (complaints by guitarists) and later on Leo developed the Precision Bass.

That value is wrong for the resistor tho - a 250k in parallel with the 1M volume would give you 1/(1/250+1/1000) = 200k equivalent. You'd need a 330k (or actually a 333k) so that 1/(1/333+1/1000) = 250k.
