Headstock decal applied. :D Tele headstock shape is kinda odd so I just did the angled approach like some Fender ones.

I decided to use some satin deft to try to get a more even clear and noticed this weird circular shape in the finish. i can't figure out if it is a tooling mark or bubble or what. It doesn't seem to be puffed out. I can see the wood grain in the paint. It is too perfect of a circle for me to have done it by painting it. Could it maybe be from Warmoth clamping it somehow when they did the routing changes for me before shipping? It was stock tele routing and I had them do three humbuckers. Would they maybe do a round suction cup or something that might cause a shape like this? I am just hoping it isn't an air bubble that will cause the finish to flake out. Anyone seen something like this before?

Maybe they have a suction clamp for routing bodies that have already been made and contoured? Only thing I can think of.... I emailed Warmoth to ask if they know what it is from.

That's really strange looking. Almost looks like it was resting on a paint can at one point, but if that was it, I would think you'd notice a difference physically/by touch... At least it's on the back. That would suck if it was on the front...

That does look like a suction clamp mark.
Unless it compressed the wood, or opened it up, I can't see why it would show through the finish.
Weird, though.

Would they really place a suction clamp over the belly cut like that?

I don't know ANY of the details of a suction clamp. But could it even get enough suction that way?

Warmoth says their clamps are body shaped or square and that their paint area isn't anywhere near sanding and routing. They also use smaller cans then that mark.

The person I was speaking with reccomended I either spray it thicker or sand it back to wood. I sanded it back to wood and I can see the ring in the bare wood. I took a pic and sent it to them. I have a feeling if I paint it again that the ring will still be right there.

Since I painted it to find the flaw, I am likely out of the warranty coverage.... Even though the ring is hard to see if you aren't looking for it on the raw wood.

F.........

This was supposed to be an easy and fun project using a warmoth body. Never had body issues from them before. :(

i was going to say the paint route you're doing is quite close to my telemaster. the metallic paint over exposed grain. honestly i think yours looks a bit nicer though. kinda shitty bout the back though. i dunno if there is much you can do without having to take the finish too far back. however complain to warmoth and hope for the best. in the meantime. my favorite picture of my telemaster

I love that Telemaster! Is it just me, or is the Tele bridge pickup REALLY fat looking?

Lovely tele.

I did take the back to bare wood and can still see the ring. No idea how it got there. It went out of the box to hang for painting the same day I got it. It hasn't really rested on anything since I got it.

Well I heard back from Warmoth today. They say they don't see the ring anymore. It just looks like a different color of wood which is normal with wood. (It just happens to be in the shape of a circle.....)

These are the pictures I sent. I showed a library clerk (not wood worker or guitar person) and she said "It looks like there is a round shape there." Then I showed her the painted picture next and she said "Oh it is the circle."

Random person can see it but not a professional?
