Seriously cool trem plate design for the Mustang. I hope everything lines up when you JM trem arrives.

And thanks for the link to the laser plate place. That will come in handy.

The 12 string neck got a decal and some clear coats this weekend. I decided to go with the totally out of left field name of TWELVE. I came up with a simplified logo for my brand, to fit the reduced space. I have a body coming in a few days as well. There are just a few minor tasks to deal with on this one now.

I got the Mustang assembled. Pics to come. I have a wiring error to track down, but it plays well and the tuning is stable.

I also have pics of the IBM Jagstang to post, but wanted to get some family photos taken first.

I worked on the neck build some as well; fretboard glued on, inlays installed and the entire thing cut and sanded to the shape. But, I had a major bandsaw goof while thinning the headstock that I may not be able to correct. Either way, I'll still move forward with the remaining steps as practice and try again soon.

Things will probably be slowing down a little bit while I take advantage of the weather to tackle some house projects.

The headstock looks good. I like "twelve" as the name. Say it like it is.

Hell, the best Fender could come up with was "XII".

I just had a few prototype laser cut Mustang to Jazzmaster conversion trem plates delivered. I'll need to smooth out the edges and do some test routing soon. I had to choose between thinner than standard (1.5mm) or thicker (3.17mm), so I went with thicker. I suspect that the thinner would be fine with stainless steel. On the other hand, weight isn't usually a big concern on Mustangs...

Man, those look so cool! Love the idea of the retrofit in the regular Mustang footprint. I wonder what that will feel like with the super-short distance from the bridge. I feel like it will give a wider range of pitch but still with that JM/Jag smoothness. It should be awesome.

That looks so rad. I can't wait to hear your report on how it plays. Such a cool idea Doug.

Thanks for the feedback folks. Again, credit to Amon 7.L and Horsefeather for pioneering the idea. I've just been waiting for the right laser cutting service to come along before doing my own experiments.

Here's something that's been hanging around my shop for awhile. I had made a second body in the prototype shape I had been working on, out of a cheap piece of ash. Well, I originally routed it for a tele bridge & pickup, but then changed my mind, had to plug the tele pickup route and cut it for a strat bridge and P90. Then I screwed up the neck pocket somehow, and ended up putting a big patch in and re-cutting the neck pocket and lower bout. At that point, it was looking pretty rough and I didn't want to put in the effort of giving it a proper finish. So, I just went a bought a pack of a couple hundred vinyl stickers for around $10 online and completely covered it.

Total cost of this build: $40 for the ash + $10 for the stickers = $50
Everything else was sitting around already: The pickguard material was leftover from the Voyager build, a GFS neck, Alnico pole P90 in the neck, traditional P90 in the bridge, import strat bridge.

I'll work on getting this assembled later in the week.

The vinyl stickers do a pretty good job of covering it. It has a certain classy funkiness to it.

That's a very polite way of putting it :D

I need some strap buttons and a few minor parts still, but this one feels better than the original prototype. That one was really light and there was serious neck dive, but was very comfy when seated. I decided to set this up as a dedicated Open C tuning guitar. A few hours after my initial setup, I remembered that I had some spare wound strings from a D'Addario baritone set, so I added those to the plain strings from my normal LTHB strings. It plays nice now with no floppiness. I need some stiffer pickup foam as they are set quite low for now, but still sound nice. The mix of pickup types (A90 + P90) is a nice combo.

I finally received the body for my twelve string project. The seller took a week to create the shipping label, then sat on it for a week. I sent them a message and gave them a few days to respond before escalating with ebay. They finally responded with some garbage excuses about the 4th of July setting them back and not having the right sized box. Anyway, that's over and I have the body now.

I have a few small tasks, like modifying the toronado bridge and wiring to do still, but here is a sneak peak:
