Putting holes (for a vibrato) in a guitar...?

Post by Pacafeliz » Sat Mar 23, 2019 2:12 pm

I was lucky enough to find an old Burns Mark 9 vibrato... now thinking of putting it on either my non reverse Gibson or reverse Epi Firebird ... but it implies making permanent holes into either of them.

...do or don't?! :bored:

Depends how much you care about resale. Would it be cool? Yeah. Are you ever going to sell them? Maybe. Will selling for maybe a couple hundred bucks less make a world of difference to you? Up to you.

If they aren't vintage or Custom Shop instruments (which clearly the Epi is not), I wouldn't hesitate personally. Especially on that Epiphone. The worst case scenario to me is that you some day decide to sell it and someone gives you $100 less for it.

I feel like Epiphones and Squiers were basically designed to be mod platforms, so that would be my move.

Well the Epi is one of them 2007 "custom shop" neck-thru models.
The Duesenberg gets in the way too much... :-/

The Lestrem doesn't look especially good on that Epi. I'd put it on the Gibson and give the Epi a larger Trem like the Burns.
Black Firebirds look best with big vibratos:

Firebirds (like JMs/Jags) have a lot of space behind the bridge, slapping a bigass vibrato in there definitely improves the look IMO.

I personally wouldn't, if it's anything like the Burns on my 60s Corvette. It will look cool, but if you plan on using it (and staying in tune), I'd just put a Bigsby on it.
