The Mint studies

To those who care. I am a fan of minty PU covers. At least a slight mint, not the very artificial green looking stuff. A good mint tint pleases my eye a bit more than cream does. Although I do no own any AV65 RI Offset, I really like the slightly minty AV65 JM and Jaguar PU covers. I think they look way better and more vintage like in comparison to the cream AVRI covers. I got lucky enough to find AV65 covers used. But there was one thing that still bothered me and that was the Trem Tip. Order options (e.g. at Staytrem) were usually Cream, White or Black. I recently found out that Stewmac is selling mint Trem Tips, I ordered 1 and I am really happy with what I got.

Mint (above) and White (below). Yes, I know that mint doesn't look like mint on this pic but that's just how the eye sees it in comparison to white:

I really depends a lot on the room light but I hope the pictures are showing the subtle differences. Next task: find a good mint switch tip. :fp:

Nice. I'm currently trying to figure out exactly what I want to do with regard to color choices for pickguard, pickup covers, etc. In general, I like subtle mint as well.

I've been looking for mint JM pickup covers. Is the only way to get as you said, used from AV65?

i had a similar issue with my bunnymaster in that none of the white plastic matched any other white plastic. in time it all kinda turns to a more uniform colour but that can take time.

Fun photos.
I like seeing mint mixed in with whites and creams.
I had an e-series strat once, all the plastics aged differently, looked great.

I'm generally not a fan of the cream or aged-white plastics, not even pearloid pickguards. Actually white or a bit green or a bit blue looks 'newer' and therefore nicer to me. (Same thing with yellowed finishes, not a fan, although admittedly I do like the vintage maple on necks. But maple is already kinda yellow to start with.) Sadly, it's hard to come across these plastic parts in a nice 'new part' looking colour. (Well, there's [almost] always black...)

PJazzmaster wanted me to drop this pic in this thread to show some color differences, so... here it is:

Left, '65 pickups in a '65 Thin Skin, right, white Mojotone covers on the '59 Thin Skin. The 'cream' atrocities thrown in for comparison.

And after seeing this thread, apparently I need to order a mint arm tip.

Those StewMac ones will fit on the Staytrem arm?

Indeed! I fully understand the need for the mint tip in this case. That cream/parchment tip is way off. Now it looks perfectly balanced.

The thing is, I'd be thinking about putting an amber tip on that pickup switch. It might sound weird & might be a similar clash to the one you've just got rid of but there's just something about it alongside tinted maple necks. It really works! :freako:

Thanks for posting your pic, it clearly demonstrates the differences.
BTW: the Stewmac tip does fit on the Staytrem (I also put mine on a Staytrem arm).

Yes, probably OCD driven, but I am satisfied now :freako:
Amber totally works on some models and color combinations.
