This is a very cool idea. I don't want to enter because I have three currently on the bench but definitely want to follow along. There are some good concept ideas already. Good luck to those who enter. Looking forward to seeing that turn into a completed guitar soon.

I don't really have the money to build a partsmaster atm, but here's what I would do:

-black back
-maple neck/fretboard
-set of old Am. std tuners I've got kicking around in my parts bin
-Novak JM-Mosrite bridge pickup
-AV65 neck pickup
-no rhythm circuit
-mustang bridge
-Hardtail tailpiece
-pickguard....probably black? Maybe aged MOP?
-match the finish with the knobs; one green, one blue

I suppose if I wanted to do it on the affordable side I'd get a set of AV65s or AVRI 62s and upgrade with the Novak later. Count me in.

What kind of finish are you thinking?

You know, I've never actually finished a guitar before, so I'm not really sure. I have a friend that's built and finished a couple kit projects, so I was going to ask him to help and go with whatever he suggested.

i'd put a p90 in the bridge, an overwound JM neck pup under the guard and paint it pink with a paisley pickguard.

You know, that body would look good with a black back and black burstover onto the front.

If it was mine, I'd start with a transparent teal/turquoise on the back (something that compliments the colors of the top), applied evenly with a clean edge where it meets the top. The top would be clear, but I'd experiment with a bit of a pearl additive to give it a little extra sparkle.

The pickguard would be clear acrylic or polycarbonate, back painted first with the transparent teal/turquoise with pearl, and then black behind it so the color is mostly like blacked out but shows a bit when the light hits it right. Or else maybe try applying the transparent color layer heavier to get it very dark and then back it with silver.

For the bridge and trem I'd get an aluminum Mastery kit, and have it re-anodized to a teal/turquoise color depending on how the pickguard turned out.

I'd probably go with a Warmoth neck. High grade birdseye maple back with an ebony fingerboard, and maybe turquoise dot inlays. Sperzel tuners - get the buttons re-anodized to match the trem if necessary.

Hand wind some pickups with neodymium magnets. The rest of the electronics would probably be typical.

But it would take me a whole year to get it done. If you like any of my ideas, feel free to make them your own. Also, I'd totally vote for anyone using an aluminum neck on that body.
All pain and troubles melted away like lemon drops beyond the contrails across the sky.

Wow, that body is stunning!

I love how my Jazzmaster feels and have always loved how full 12-string guitars sound, so here's how my 12-string Jazzmaster build would go:

Body: Clear, with the back left natural. Probably clear nitro from Reranch.

Neck: Warmoth '65 12-string "hockey stick" Fender XII-style neck. http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar/Necks/65- ... thPro.aspx

Pickguard: black one-ply. When the body is that nice, all other aesthetic choices should take a back seat.

Electronics: Bootstrap Lake Surfer pickups for maximum jangle capability. I just ordered a set of these for my 6-string JM. Standard Jazzmaster wiring with the rhythm circuit, which could be useful when the sound should be more subdued. 1M linear taper for rhythm volume, 50k linear for rhythm tone. 1M linear taper for master volume and tone. 0.33uF cap. Alternate idea: wire in stereo, but that's going to take some consideration. https://bootstrappickups.com/products/b ... jazzmaster

Bridge: I have a locking tail plate that I would mod for 12 strings—it would likely remain locked, because keeping a 12-string in tune is hard enough without introducing a locking tremolo. I have a JM bridge that can be converted to 12-string with new saddles (the standard JM bridge isn't as much of an issue if you're not using the tremolo). Another route would be a custom bridge from Staytrem,. Honestly, figuring out the best bridge might take some experimentation, but that's not unusual for Jazzmasters in general.

Strings: Roger McGuinn used Pyramid flatwounds. I've never used flatwound guitar strings, but that seems like a good place to start, and finding the best strings is always an experimentation.

Tuners: Two sets of Grover locking tuners. I'd prefer the vintage style, but tuning is always an issue with 12-strings https://www.stewmac.com/Hardware_and_Pa ... uners.html.

Hardware: The plastic parts (master knobs, 3-way switch cover, and pickup covers) would probably be parchment, but would have to see how that looked with the finished body—white or black might be better). Rhythm roller knobs would be standard knurled black. All other metal hardware would be chrome.

I have absolutely no need for another project, but what the hell. I can't say for certain what I'd do, but something psychedelic along these lines:

Electronics: Too many options in my parts box to decide right now. Maybe Fernandes Sustainer if the circuit board fits the PU selector cavity. Or two JM pickups with J-bass wiring. Or bridge PU only. Or try to get ahold of some G&L Z-coils. Maybe even route another pickup cavity behind the bridge?

Pickguard: Black, configuration depends on electronics. Maybe try to make one with a raised center for a stealth look, or a raised center with grille-type slots cut on top of pickups.

Tailpiece: Japan or Squier with some wacky self-made arm.

Bridge: Mastery or Staytrem Bass VI or Mustang with Jag mute plate. Lots of chrome/steel, anyway.

Finish: Turqoise back and matte clear. I like the faded look in the second photo so maybe sand the top down a bit?

Neck: Whatever is available then, with turqoise or black headstock.

Other: either lots of knobs (the witch hat kind), switches, sliders, etc., or very plain.

Sorry Kimson, that too is stabilized. The color goes all the way through. Sanding it won’t change a thing haha.
