I think you will need to make the route wider if you use that plate - you need a diagonal one like this....

The wiring part seems to be the tricky thing here.

correct about the rout.
The johnny marr and am pro guitars have a slightly different rout to accomodate that 4-way.
Depending on what you're trying to do, you can find diagrams for both models online, which should get you started at least.

I needed to file off a little of the cavity wall at each end (mostly near the top edge) on a VM body to take the 4-way switch and the straight Marr/Am Pro plate. Easy. You could possibly just file/ cut a bit off the switch instead. I may have also used shorter screws on the switch but I can't remember for sure.

Not too difficult if you check out the Jaguar circuits in the thread shared above, and understand what is going on with them, particularly the American Professional and Johnny Marr models for the 4-way side of things.
