Warmoth Black and ASH Mustang Finished PG. 2

Post by HNB » Tue Dec 25, 2018 12:01 pm

Got this body cheap on Reverb. I also picked up an Allparts tremolo and bridge. I have a tort Warmoth HS guard coming in. :)

I had my eye on that, wondered when someone would snatch that up. What’s the plan for it?

Did someone mod that body? I thought Warmoth only did the stock routing on their Mustang bodies. At least, that's the only option their online configurator gives.

Their Mustang bodies are all set for HH setup since you can still do SS if you want. It isn't modded. :) The seller did the finish work. It looks fine to me. You can still see grain but not much and it feels smooth enough for me to be happy. :) I like that it is worn in a bit also from being used.

The plan is a tortoise guard with a single coil neck pickup and humbucker in the bridge. :D

The white guard looks better than I pictured it in my head. I have a black guard for it in case I don't end up liking the tort.

I agree. I don't think to put white guards on anything, but it's grown on me.
I considered looking into a spitfire guard for mine, but I don't know if he even makes them, and they're over budget, and I'd have to see it to know...

anyway, I'm anxious to see yours together.

finish looks good! What are you planning on using for the neck? I always assume the fender necks would have to be sanded down slightly on the sides in order to fit the warmoth body neck pocket? Any experience with this?

I have used a bunch of Warmoth bodies with different necks. I almost always have to sand the sides of the neck pocket to widen it. (Except if I use a Warmoth neck.) Not too big of a deal. I have a piece of 1x2 I wrap sandpaper around and sand a little on each side until the neck fits in from the top. :)

ADH has a neck for my Firefly project he said he would send me, so I might use that Allparts neck on this build. :)

Spitfire does do Mustang guards. I have his first one iirc. Since this is a Warmoth body and I wanted HH, I just got a Warmoth guard.

Used some scrap strings to get the neck attached and string tree added. :)

i've been watching clips of the B52s lately, that's the same string set-up Ricky used.

Added switches and pickup. It is the bridge pickup from an Indonesian Strat. :)

Went black guard.
