Which Spitfire guard shape for 60th anniversary Jazzmaster

Post by El Pelo » Sun Sep 30, 2018 4:47 pm

Looking to pickup a spitfire tort guard for my latest project. My stock guard has the slot instead of the 2 holes so i'm not sure which shape to order. If I am spending this much I want it to be a direct drop in fit with no modifications. I have emailed them but no response.

The ones with an open slot come in Classic Player Jazzmasters, and the slot is there to accommodate the tom bridge and allow it to be set really low, if needed. All holes and openings of CP JM pickguard line up perfectly with the American Vintage pickguards with the only difference being two holes vs. large opening. However, I would at least trace the pickguard very precisely, or even send it to Spitfire, just to be safe considering the cost involved.

Thanks for the info! That’s really helpful and makes sense. I remember the TOM bridge having to sit low.

For anyone reading this later.

I ordered a standard AVRI pickguard and it didn't fit. I had to bore out the bridge holes a bit.

Seems like the MIM Jazzmaster thimbles are just a few millimeters further from the bridge than the AVRI

I put a "Pure Vintage '65 Jazzmaster Eggshell pickguard" (that I ordered from Fender) on my TVL Jazzy, which is also made in Mexico and it fit perfectly.
