Who makes a CORRECT Maple Black Blocks and Binding Neck?
Hey there!
I'm looking for a vintage- fender-esque maple neck with black blocks and binding a la:

I know Musikraft makes them and theyre top notch. (long wait and reallllly expensive). Any other options?
Looking for 25.5 scale and the correct fender sized block inlays, not the gibson-sized inlays that Warmoth use.
Thanks all!

I made a huge mistake and ordered a Warmouth neck without realizing the blocks weren’t the cool Fender kind. So I *really* want to know this also, except MoP rather than black.
Heck, maybe this wonderful person could pop out the Warmouth blocks and re-route for Fender blocks? That would be the best outcome, otherwise I need to order another neck. Yow!

I made the same mistake a while back. Warmoth necks are really high quality but visually the blocks look wrong.DeathJag wrote: ↑Tue Sep 11, 2018 4:33 pmI made a huge mistake and ordered a Warmouth neck without realizing the blocks weren’t the cool Fender kind. Maybe Guitar Mill?
Personally I'd go Musikraft, but you will need to tell them not to put an inlay on the 21st fret if you want it vintage correct - I have asked them to do this previously, and they obliged.
Sure it's not the cheapest option, but you will get a great neck.
Cheers

Agreed- that seems like the route to take.JVG wrote: ↑Sun Sep 23, 2018 8:19 pmMaybe Guitar Mill?

Re: Who makes a CORRECT Maple Black Blocks and Binding Neck?
Funny story - I got the Warmoth neck and was stunned at the workmanship. I mean it is FLAWLESS, like a piece of art. The blocks didn’t bother me, but what did bother me was the fact that the headstock is a tiny strat style! So after the long wait, it’s going back. Lesson = make sure the headstock is the “CBS” style.
Fender-style Mother of Pearl block inlays are available as a set and they’re not expensive. I’m thinking of getting the same Warmoth with the correct headstock, and leaving the fretboard blank. Then getting a luthier to install the Fender style blocks. I dunno.
Now I’m also looking at Musikraft, but I’m leary since I’ve only felt one other one and a couple inlay dots were not flush. Looked super sloppy, but maybe it was a fluke. Or maybe those dots were not original or something. Also I’m not sure they offer an ebony fretboard.

I’m very happy with my Musikraft neck. I don’t doubt what you noticed with the other neck, but I’ve had a great experience. They are NOT cheap, though!

B&B necks are expensive. Just pony up the cash. Save a little longer. If you love the neck and the guitar it will be worth it. How many people are filled with regret by going that extra mile to have the job done right?
Musickraft is the way to go. OR... you could get a regular neck and get someone else to do the custom work.
People that are okay with Gibson-style blocks on Fender guitars are misguided at be best.

Fuck! This is insane! Musikraft does not offer pearloid binding, nor dark neck wood. So now I’m back to Warmoth doing everything but the inlays, and getting someone else to do those. Dammit! Why can’t these people be more god damn flexible?!!! Why can Warmoth put in DUMB ass bat inlays and not Fender style blocks?!
Anyone know anyone who’s an absolute ace at inlays?

How do you make sure the necks are CBS style at Warmoth? Do you have to do a custom build?
You can get really good deals on their site if you settle for something close to what you want with a preexisting build. That's what I'll do with the body, but probably not the neck since I want Wenge and Ebony fretboard. Not exactly "period correct" specs, but man wedge and ebony kicks ass.

Re: Who makes a CORRECT Maple Black Blocks and Binding Neck?
Yes it was a $630 neck, but would have been worth every penny if the headstock was right. I ordered it made yes, and wenge wood is INSANE. So hard and smooth and heavy. So heavy! If you get a body made from that, it might be over twenty pounds.Riff Magnum wrote: ↑Tue Sep 25, 2018 11:37 amHow do you make sure the necks are CBS style at Warmoth? So now that I had to send that neck back, I’m going to get one done right if it costs me double. Basically I just need someone who can do the block inlays. Once I find them, I’ll be ready to order another neck. God damn it.

If you are really determined to do this (and I commend you for it as a fellow B&B devotee ) I know of a pro. I believe he did the blocks on my USACG Bass VI neck.
This guy.

Thanks a million for this!! I just emailed him. If anyone can do the kind I’m looking for, he can! I’m at the point where I almost don’t care what it costs. This is for my dream jaguar as a reward for working so hard like I do!
