Re: ASATmaster build
I finally got around to doing a sound sample of this guitar. It is here on SoundCloud:
https://soundcloud.com/clifton-stuckey- ... asatmaster
And here is what is going on:
0:00 Open chords, bridge pickup
0:25 Open chords, both pickups
0:49 Open chords, neck pickup
1:12 Bar chords, bridge pickup
1:32 Bar chords, both pickups
1:51 Bar chords, neck pickup
2:10 Arpeggio thing, bridge pickup
2:54 Arpeggio thing, both pickups
3:37 Arpeggio thing, neck pickup
4:19 Bar chords, various sounds (bridge, bridge tone down, neck, neck tone down, middle, middle tone down)
5:07 Arpeggio thing, bridge pickup, dirty
5:48 Punk-y thing (heavy overdrive)
6:28 Gaze-y thing (trying to grab some harmonics)
I also recorded a sample of the G&L ASAT Classic Alnico Tribute it will be replacing:
https://soundcloud.com/clifton-stuckey- ... co-tribute
Obviously with the very different neck pickups only the bridges are directly comparable, but I think the comparison shows how much more useful a pickup that MFD is in the neck (as well as adding a lot of dynamics to the middle position). It is such an expressive pickup, whereas the typical Telecaster type pickup is just a bit muddy and understated. I can achieve that with the tone knob.
