Re: Lefty Bass VI
Dude! That silver with that pickguard (mint, parchment, cream?) looks AMAZING. It brings out the silver as much as the silver makes the guard look better (than say a black bodied guitar)!! Love it!!!

Re: Lefty Bass VI
I love the colour too. Funny thing is, when I was planning this build I had been wanting a natural finish all along (because I was inspired by an awesome natural VI posted on this forum some time back), then at the last minute I switched to inca silver. Don't know what made me change, but so glad I did.
The guard is mint, although it looks more parchment in these pics.
It's getting a nut made now, then the moment of truth will arrive !

Wow! I’m really impressed with this one. It is gorgeous. Also, I like the fact that you were as specific as you were about which version of the bass VI pickups you were going for, in lefty, in this color. This is exactly the kind of complicated choice I would make.

Re: Inca silver Bass VI
Thanks guys.
I'd never played a bass VI before - mainly because lefty versions are pretty rare beasts - so I didn't know what to expect from this. The project was initiated out of curiousity more than anything else. Now that it's done, I'm really glad I went through with it, despite the hurdles.
It's a really cool sounding instrument, and all the concerns I had while building it have slipped away. Specifically, I was worried about the following:
Would it just be a novelty thing, and not practical?
Would I be ok with the headstock not being quite the right shape?
Would the Novak pickups be worth the high price tag?
Would I regret not having the strangle switch?
Was Inca Silver the right choice of colour?
It's so much fun to play, and the range of sounds available from the various combination of pickups, and using the tone knob, is amazing. I've been approaching it more like a guitar than a bass, i.e. mostly playing chords and melodies, rather than baselines. And yes, I couldn't resist the cliche of stomping on a chorus pedal and playing stuff up halfway up the neck! That said, it sounds great just for bass lines as well.
Anyway, I'll stop gushing for now, as it's pretty clear I'm in the honeymoon period!
Cheers!
J.

Stunning! Nice to hear you say that about your worries. As a fellow lefty, I too have e worried about it being a novelty as well. I think your approach makes a difference too, but that definitely makes me feel better!
