Bootstrap Pickups

Post by ThePearDream » Sun Jun 03, 2018 8:40 am

I recently became aware of a new pickup winder called Bootstrap Pickups. I haven't seen any mention of them on here yet, so I thought I'd share this knowledge. It looks like they are new and running some really low prices to get people interested. Their Jazzmaster set is $50 right now and their P90 set is $40.

Their P90's have alnico poles. I freakin' love that.

They're $40. I don't even have a guitar with P90's right now. Don't think that I'm not considering impulse-purchasing another Bullet Mustang and dropping them in there...

Yeah, the P90s look really promising. Let us know what you think tribi9.

If I hadn't just finally gotten my only P90 guitar finally sounding good, I'd try them out. I did order a set of the $40 '54 Vintage strat pickups to throw into an empty body I have.

^No problem. Will do.

I got a Japanese Epiphone Les Paul Special sitting at home sans pickups.

Thx for posting.

I got my $40 pickups installed in this thing:

The pickups appear very well made and are very clean and tidy. I need to play with the heights a bit, but they do sound pretty good. Certainly better than any strat pickups I've heard from GFS. I actually decided to try some flat wounds on it, and it has a nice vintage sound.

I am actually going to sell this off in the near future because I don't like surf green in person and I have too many strats. I will gladly try some more bootstrap pickups in the future though.

I ordered a set of his Oatmeal Stout pickups with custom flat pole pieces for a mustang my buddy was working on and they sounded pretty damn good! Very clear and articulate pickups. The build quality is solid, and the customer service was awesome. Only minor gripe was that the strat covers it came with didn’t quite fit my strat’s guard, but I suspect it may be something wrong on my end. Definitely gonna order more from him in the future!

I bought these the day they showed up on Reverb. But I haven't found a project for them, yet.

Anyone get the Jazzies?

Apparently they aren't supposed to be strictly traditional JM pickups, right? How are you guys finding them?

Arise thread, arise!

Performing a bit of necromancy to see if anyone has more experiences with Bootstrap pickups lately.

I've got a Jaguar with P90's on its way, and am thinking of ordering some of Bootstrap's pickups for it.

On top of their $40 alnico-pole P90's, they're now offering a $50 set of their Telecaster pickups on p90 bobbins, baseplate and all, which come in 3 different winds/magnet compositions.

I'm seriously thinking of going with a Tele bridge pickup and their standard, Jazzmastery neck P90. Sounds like it'd be more or less a shortscale Bootstrap version of the classic Novak JM-V/JM-T combo which I love.

Wondering if anyone has played around with their P90's or Tele pickups, though!
