Sorry to revive this old post: I just wanted to share my recent experience with OPEN metal covers on Jag Pickups.

What I thought must look the coolest - because I love the look of open metal covers on PAF sized or P90 Pickups (and the best in between might just be a Firebird sized pickup with that look) - I thought these must look cool on Jag Pickups too.

I had a set of white Strat pickups custom made from Q-Pickups - with specific Strat covers without wings (and Claws) - and suddenly the Jag turned into a Baritone-esque appearance - as the pickup size somehow looked way off/too little.

I was searching everywhere and after what appeared like years - I found something that I thought was THE thing. Fits just in between the claws - has the wings - but when I installed them - it just looked like this:




somehow boring, too small, somehow too busy with the claws - and if I'd take them off the pickup would appear lost in the routing.
The Creamery's Sonic 60s for Jaguar appear to be about the same size - and also quite low wings - so this might probably look more or less the same...
it really would have to be a Jag cover.

In the meantime I found these: aluminum jag pickups on etsy - so this could be interesting to some of you - and my contribution wasn't for nothing...


But I also would be interested how THIS Humbucker would sound! :-P

I realize this is an old thread, but if anyone is still looking for metal Jaguar pickup covers, I discovered these recently. They also make Jazzmaster and Strat covers.

THANK YOU for posting this!! I immediately grabbed a set. They're for a 5-years-long(-so-far) jag project that when completed, might steal your soul and post your body parts swinging on a chained pillar, unleashed by The Box. No more hints, but when it's done it will be that epic.

Yeah, I just posted the same listing a bit further above. Just with that fancy new feature of a name instead of the link. I stumbled across them a few months ago. They look very promising. And your project does too!

The Creamery Sonic 60's covers are made of brass. If they even fit a standard bobbin, and he's willing to sell them (both question marks), they WILL lop off high end like a Tele neck pickup. There's a reason tons of people remove the covers from telecaster neck pickups (which are chrome plated brass) - it opens up the tone a lot. A Jag will get a whole lot darker with them, which may end up sounding very different from how you wanted.

This post is correct, though there is a solution... Ken Willmott did some excellent science back in 2016 and found that you can dramatically reduce the eddy currents that cause massive high-end loss in metal pickup covers with a couple well-placed cuts:

Interesting, it looks kind of similar in design to a Filtertron cover, and those certainly aren't lacking for high end.

Yep! It's been a while since I read that article that I linked, but I think Filtertrons were one of the things that set his thoughts and experiments in motion.
