The only wrong answer here is pearloid.

Re: Charcoal Frost + which Pickguard ?
I have a greenish CFM strat that I went through the same dilemma with. I have tort on it now, which just doesn't work to my eye. Most people (who haven't studied color theory) are unaware of the law of simultaneous contrast - "the tendency of a color to induce its opposite in hue, value and intensity upon an adjacent color and be mutually affected in return".
Basically, this means that the tort will make a greenish CFM look more green, and the CFM will make the tort look more red. Some people are more sensitive to these contrasts than others.
This is why tort on green or blue guitars can be so divisive.
The right choice for me is parchment. CFM is such a gorgeous color that I wouldn't want anything distracting from it. The parchment material that SneakyT uses is especially nice and would look really tasteful on your JM.

Tort would be good here, and I'm not one for tort on everything.
That said, I'm also not for pearloid most times and in this case I think it would look fantastic. Gold ano would also be great.

This is an excellent rectangle

Tort looks great, but gold looks sublime. But then you'd might have to go with gold hardware as well.

Re: Charcoal Frost + which Pickguard ?
whoa - that looks great
again I'm a tiny bit concerned about the pearloid blocks and white binding - this one in the picture looks gorgeous but the fretboard is quite dark and even the dots inlays look a bit cream/yellowed to match the gold
and the yellow tint headstock also matches the whole colour composition
I'll try and cut something together in GIMP on the fly to get an impression how that would look with my b&b neck + matching headstock
Had a look on ebay and man, looks like a real challenge to find hardware in the same gold shade

here's my neck on that picture:
here's another gold mockup:
Original Pearloid pic :
and for the mint voters - here's what I mean with the neck
1. internet pic
2. my B&B neck on it :
to be honest after looking at these I will buy a gold guard just for having the option - it does look great although I'm not completeley sold with that pearloid inlays and white from the neck... Porky's pic with the aged rosewood neck + yellowed inlays + natural neck looks

Re: Charcoal Frost + which Pickguard ?
Mr Danocaster is a bit of a magician when it comes to tastefully reliced guitars. Few people do it well & even fewer do it really well.
It's funny, I had a very similar binding dilemma when I built my Telecaster/Gretsch hybrid*. I really wanted a B & B neck but was worried about the stark white binding, so much so that I was going to get a neck custom made with blocks but no binding.
In the end I bought a B & B neck with quite light rosewood & ended up masking off the maple & staining the board & binding with leather polish. I sanded the binding a little first to give the dye some purchase. I couldn't have been happier with the results. A few dark lines appeared where the dye sunk into invisible scratches but I soon got used to it. It just looks like old binding now. The pickguard is parchment, not plain white...
(my god, it's dusty!)
This could be an option if the bright white binding bugs you.
* I'll link you up with the build thread once I've fixed the damage Photobucket have caused with their fucking annoying place-holders.

Re: Charcoal Frost + which Pickguard ?
When it comes to Sunburst, Black, White or Oxblood JAGs and JMs I'd go with Tortoise all the way... but with Charcoal Frost (a color I absolutely love since I've first seen it here a few months ago) I'd go with Mint or maybe Parchment. Tortoise would be my third choice.
Just not Pearloid or stock white...

Re: Charcoal Frost + which Pickguard ?
Hey Nico, wow it looks really great, I’m glad!!
Def not pearloid - should never be seen on a JM or jag!
I dropped a gold guard on it while it was curing in my loft... thought to myself ‘that looks fucking awesome...’
Slightly scuffed up gold guard would do it in my mind. Gold goes nicely with greens.
Either that or parchment is my safe place!

Re: Charcoal Frost + which Pickguard ?
My very first electric guitar had a pearloid pickguard, and I've been quite fond of them for decades, but in my old age I'm starting to prefer black pickguards. But since black isn't a choice here, I'll have to go with dark tort.

Re: Charcoal Frost + which Pickguard ?
If there was an option for a "totally absolutely, no questions about it dark tort, like the one in the pic" I would have selected that. What you got on that fist photo is so cool and "dangerous" looking! To me that's totally jazzmaster aesthetics.
