Interested in how they sound (did you get fat 52s or woodchimes?) clean and overdriven, if you can crank your amp up. I am really on the fence here.

I got the Fat 52s. My twin reverb doesn't really break up at playable volumes, sorry. I gotta invest in a drive pedal. I'll let you know how they sound otherwise.

I've got a set of customized Fat 52's. Alnico 2 top (b and e string only) and the rest alnico 5. Since I play heavy strings (rounds and flatwounds) with wound G, my problem with usual pickups when used for clean sound has always been too loud b string and too quiet D and G strings. Tim put slightly larger magnets under the D & G strings and the alnico 2 magnet under the b string took care of the rest.

The result is warm yet clear sounding pickup set with great string-to-string volume balance that works well with 1 Meg pots.
I am curious about his woodies set for one of my other JMs.

Honestly, I could not be happier! These pickups are amazing and are easily the best deal around. My fat 52’s are well balanced, dynamic, and articulate. They remind me of a tele version of jazz master pickups in that they are so responsive to player input. I tend to be a volume knob rider and use different picking to achieve my desired tone and these pickups have lend to that style perfectly.
There is nothing better than to be able to speak to the person making your pickups and tell them what you play, what your desired sound is, and have them tailor craft them for you. Without reservation I can say these pickups hold their own with any other pickup on the market. I have porters and lollars that are amazing, and these are just as good! I’ll build my next guitar around some of tim’s pickups, but I’ll buy them now because I suspect supply and demand will have to drive up his prices eventually!

just ordered my second set of woodies. they are my favorite JM pickups by far.

they’re definitely way more mellow than most JM pickups, but that’s what i like about them. fuzz and overdrive sound great, and i have a nice boost pedal of i miss the cutting highs. but the cleans... oh man. amazing.

Are they balanced with respect to string-to-string-volume? My problem with the most pickups (with heavy gauge strings, 12-52 and 13-56 with wound g) is that the b-string is much louder than the g- and d-string.

You can hear both sets of Sundays I have, along with pickups form Novak and Pickup Wizard, in this comparison clip I recorded of all five of my Jazzmasters.

Thanks for posting that, Redchapterjubilee!
I really liked guitars 2&3 in your clips. All the same keeping my current setup (AV65 neck with Novak GF at the bridge in my old JM for the time being. However, this thread did lead me to consider fiendish things for my JM build. I decided to go with the Sunday pickups Micawber set (PAF neck , Tele bridge). I should have it wire up in a couple of weeks and am pretty excited!

I have a set of custimized Fat 52s as well as a Pickup Wizard pre CBS set and like them both a lot. With a slight preference towards Fat 52s.
To my ears your Woodchime set sounds somewhat similar to Pickup Wizard pre CBS set...?

The AVRI 62 I have the Pickup Wizards in is my favorite guitar. I think those seem a tad darker and more powerful. Even with the overwound bridge the Woodchimes are nearly a K less powerful. That lends a glassier “chime” for lack of a better word. I may replace those. But not for any quality reason. Just that I’d be after a different sound. The Creamery’s less powerful version of the WRHB is really kind of talking to me.

I later bought guitar #2. CORRECTION: these are the Woodchime + in here. Also swapped in a Staytrem bridge. Here’s a track I recorded with it.

Signal chain is guitar (played fingerstyle with a 2nd fret capo)>Tech 21 Blonde>Neunaber Iconoclast (stereo)>Focusrite ISA Two>interface with a little reverb and a touch o’ compression

Nice sound. I also use the Tech 21 Blonde. Second time I've seen it posted about this week.
