335-style Offset; Name Suggestions?

I'm just in the process of making the first one (under carve on the top is done).

This first one is going to be straightforward - the same way I'd do a Thinline but with a heavily carved one piece top, and a lot wider- but I'm wanting to arrive upon some compromise between a hollow and a semi-hollow design eventually.

I can't think of a decent name for it. I'm this close to renaming the Jupiter the "DropHorn", which is slightly raunchy, and "Semi-Semi" just wouldn't cut it! :fp:

I thought about ribbing under the top for extra rigidity, and I keep returning to the idea of having all the controls, pickups and tailpiece mounted to the back and coming through holes in the top, with just the bridge actually mounted on top... Maybe the Jonah? Or the Trojan! :-[

Some sort of clever take on the "335-ness", combined with the offset nature?

Any famous 335 players whose name you could use as a subtle nod (I only know of Larry Carlton and Dave Edmunds, off the top of my head).

It's a hollow (lightweight) offset, so you could play on that...take a page from Apple, with the "Air" + some sort of offset reference?

Here you go: JagAir 335 (aka The Larry).

You're welcome.

:p

The... Prowler. Duvall. Stovebolt. Knucklehead. Bobber. Dutchman. Louver. Lowboy...

These hot-rod references doing anything for you?

Really like what you’ve been doing with these, btw.
(Tips hat)

Seconded! Stovebolt sounds amazing. Probably make a good band name too

If you do some variation on 335, you should typo that into 355 :D

I do kinda like Jonah. Should definitely leave Jupiter as Jupiter though 8)

665, to play off of the 335 inspiration. And being just shy of 666, it would be equal parts cheeky/bad-ass.

The answer is obviously "Castraters", since it's an anagram of "Starcaster". Or if you want to be a little less strict and make a bit more grammatical sense, the Castrater.

For a Russian theme, it could be the Tsarcaster/Tsar-caster. The Arts-caster or Rats-caster. I think that's the end of anagrams I can think of that make any kind of sense.

Ok, I've had a long day and need to quit while I'm ahead. But an anagram of Starcaster is still a kickass idea if you ask me.

How about "The Hollis". I'm a big Talk Talk/Mark Hollis fan & since it is a hollowbody...

I like the controls thru holes idea. Like using the super long shady pots from 70s stereo system. As for compromise, the biggest issue with full hollow is the feedback. Semis reduce it with a center block... what I'm curious about is creating baffles. I use them in aquarium sumps, I think air ducts have them too to reduce noise transfer between rooms. I'll draw up my idea tomorrow on the computer.
as for naming it, I was thinking go with another Roman god like saturn (Eastwood has a model c as liked saturn 63 tho) or Minerva...with an owl inlay pickguard.

Ooh, I like LowBoy...

Maybe something like wide-arch? That would make sense!

Some amazing suggestions all round though guys!

Getting some more width out of this body blank! Borrowed some bits from the waist and spliced them onto the lower bout.

Just gluing the wings on here (not the centerline) so I can run both through the thicknesser once more before I join them.

The top is over an inch thick, and I'll thickness this back down to 1-1/2", so it should be a nice balance between having a nice deep carve but with some nice slim (ish) sides.

I'm going to do it Les Paul style, bound around the top edge and with a 1/4" roundover around the slab back. It'll be getting a rear rout cover as well.

By the way, here's a render of this model

After seeing the render, it reminds me of the classic mga's and other brit roadsters. The one that immediately came to mind was the jaguar xk-120.
If you called it the xk-120, it would be clever because jags are offset...
