Has there been any more development of this project?

I can't wait to see more. Spitfires are cool but more than vintage guards sometimes...

IIRC, deed poll posted in a different thread that the artist was no longer working on the project as she was focusing on her own stuff. I don't think deed poll has posted on the forum in a while either.

Yeah. They're nice guards but way overpriced IMO. Not worth it.N0_Camping4U wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 4:46 pmI can't wait to see more. Spitfires are cool but more than vintage guards sometimes...

Re: Success! Epoxy Tort
They are great guards, and I guess I’d sell them for $300 too, if I could make them and people would buy them. As a buyer, though...with a little patience you can find a vintage guard for less. You can also pick up a nitro painted MJT body for less. Seems crazy to drop that kind of money on a guard...adamrobertt wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2019 3:38 pmYeah. one thing that frustrates me in all this is reverb sellers tagging their guitars $200-250 more than their worth because they upgraded it with a spitfire guard.adamrobertt wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2019 3:38 pmYeah. like yeah they look cool and i’m sure as hell there’s a lot that goes into making them, but i can’t afford to drop $300 on a cosmetic improvement, especially considering the kind of changes you can get in playability and tone for $300.
granted, i know spitfire is active here and i think his work is rad. just real spensive for my tastes.

Agreed. And nothing against the guy personally... and obviously there must be plenty of people buying them... just not me. lolpostchrist wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 8:19 pmone thing that frustrates me in all this is reverb sellers tagging their guitars $200-250 more than their worth because they upgraded it with a spitfire guard.adamrobertt wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2019 3:38 pmYeah. Re: Success! Epoxy Tort
Came to ask about development - bummed if there’s not gonna be any more of these things because they look seriously, seriously awesome. Really wish I’d have kept trying and gotten more into art as a kid so I’d have even a clue about how to try this myself.
Found that thread, I think, on the Tele forum where the guy broke down how he makes his stuff and it definitely seemed doable. Maybe I’ll give it a whirl one day.
Deed-poll if you see this I hope yr well and staying safe and still doing cool stuff and that maybe one day I’ll get the chance to snag one of these insane guards.

Re: Success! Epoxy Tort
Hey!
So I still have the epoxy and dyes, but other projects have pushed ahead in the queue - chiefly engineering and setting up the TuffseT bridge and moving into the new workshop to tool up and batch-produce the Lyrebird model (formerly known as the Juniorbird).
That suits mostly a black or white / parchment pickguard since it's more Gibson in appearance, but I will certainly be needing some good tort for this model (as yet unnamed, and which has changed a bit since this render)
I've always loved the faded target burst / red tort look, like the '66 Jazz Bass in my Avatar pic.
I also bought this crazy thing recently - the CNC pickup winder - and have a list of crazy / doomed experiments to try!
In short, I can't promise any progress soon on the epoxy tort project, but I doubt this will be the last you see of it!
Thanks for the kind words, I'm keeping well! I hope you're good too :^)

Re: Success! Epoxy Tort
I'm really glad you like it. I have quite a lot riding on it currently, so I hope others agree with you!
The last day I have actually been thinking more about picking up the epoxy tort again. Losing Rebecca from the project was obviously a blow, and I would have to work to learn the many techniques involving heating, cooling, vibration and various texturing. It would be a big job.
Perhaps a bigger challenge is guaranteeing a perfectly smooth, level and glassy high-gloss finish. I might investigate equipment and processes which might enable that.

That Marauder-like design is hot, agree on the colors. Looking forward to the TuffseT bridge(s) and epoxy tort! Is there a Katz guitars website? I tried to google it but couldn’t find one.

Re: Success! Epoxy Tort
Cheers!
There isn't currently a website, but I own the relevant domains - tuffset.co.uk, katzguitars.co.uk (maybe .com as well?), I even took swirloid.com when I was last considering the tortoise project. I will need something for pickups, too.
It's a case of too many options, and needing to make decisions as to what fits where, what the websites will be for (tuffset will certainly need e-commerce), how deeply to indulge, etc.
I have to redact over 10,000 words I've put together to justify my designs and outline my philosophy. I'll also need to set up a black-background photography booth, and think about whether I will continue with custom bodies - where they might fit in, whether I keep them under GuitarForm, and so on.
All of that is before even making the website (s) proper! There's a lot to get on with, and it often feels like I have been over-ambitious. I'm taking things one day, one job, at a time.
