Pickguard material as fret markers...

Post by Deed_Poll » Tue Aug 15, 2017 7:47 am

So I'm making a "fretboard" out of roasted ash for our good buddy Shadoweclipse13 to go on a lap steel / slide guitar he has in the works. We were puzzling over how best to mark the fret positions for slide playing, and I came up with the idea of using 3-ply pickguard material edge-on to create a high contrast double pinstripe look.

This is just the tester to make sure I'm cutting the slots just right, but IMO it looks so awesome I thought I'd share it here.

I definitely want to try this on normal fretted guitar necks to work as position markers, with a single stripe right the way across on the 3,5,7,9,15,17,19,21 and a double stripe on the 12th. That way they could double up as side markers too.

Let me know your thoughts!

Genius!

Vox had a similar idea with some of their inlayed necks....

I dig it. Similar to aluminum bars but easier to work with for sure.

This is so awesome!!!
It reminds me those Hofner Galaxy necks I'm in love with...

This is a freakin' good AND simple idea.

Yes! Hofner - I was searching for that name, but couldn't call it up! Thank you. I kept thinking... "nooooo, it's not Hagstrom... iiiiiiiiiiit's... _______" :derp:
But yes. Different, but similar in the best ways.
