mastery m7.1 with jazz/jag trem piece...?
contemplating a parts-bin build. anybody know if the m7.1 would work with the fender trem piece?
have the mastery - dont have the thimbles or bridge to go with the fender tail piece.
thoughts?

Should work without a problem. There are even notches in the back to accommodate for the strings passing there.

Only thing I can think of is that you wouldn't have as much vertical movement in the saddles as you would on other bridges. Being a mastery though you probably wouldn't need to shim to avoid string slippage so it likely wouldn't be a problem.
I think it would look super cool regardless.

Thanks for the input. As far as I could tell they would/could/should, but never hurts to ask. Tried to find pictures of someone else attempting it but narp.
The build has started. If anything this will be a trial run - body might be too small but I have faith.... and another nicer painted body.

How did this work? I actually emailed the Mastery dudes about this and they said it wouldn't... I was skeptical to say the least lol

i don't see why it couldn't work. i'm countersinking the trem plate into the body to help increase the break angle. should sit flush when done if things go as planned. the distance from bridge to trem is a little less than my jm/jg but more than the classic player builds. but if mastery says it wont i guess....... i'll try and prove them wrongMettleGossett wrote:How did this work? the body is an 80's squier bullet. it has been a test mule of mine, put through the ringer over the years. if this ends up working it might have finally found it's place in the world. if not, well, the test-subject life continues.
neck will be a firebird mini hb
middle has the route for a hb but not sure it'll have anything
bridge will be a killer sounding EGC hum
3-way (or 5 depending on middle pu) switch
single vol/tone
squire big headstock neck and kluson tuners
if all else fails with the M7.1 i'll revert back to the stock fender jm/jg style bridge. just need to pick up a set of thimbles... and a bridge....

I'm trying to think of why this wouldn't work, and I'm coming up blank, as a regular mastery is deigned to not move anyways.
I'm also looking at my own mastery equipped jm, and how shallow the break angle is, comparing it to my tele with a 4.1, and wondering if you could even get by without a neck shim or countersinking the wiggly apparatus.

It works
Will get pictures up later tonight. It's not pretty but I really wants to play it so cobbled together the pup jack and makeshift pickup positioning bracket plate painters tape thingy.
Rings out like crazy. Ghost notes behind the bridge sound killer. The strat trem hole in the body I think helps coax these along a wee bit.

pics a plenty. trem works great. enough break angle between bridge and trem with the countersunk trem unit. new ridged router, some fresh bits and a steady hand.... didn't turn out too horrible.
single volume knob with treble bleed still needs to be wired up. sor now the cliff is just for looks and the pup is wired straight to the jack.
white guard will get cleaned up and shot with same charcoal-frost-ish color as the headstock. aluminum plates will get freshened up with a scotchbrite pad.
going to swap in some shorter brass bridge screws as well. the stock ones stick up a bit and can/will chew up your palm if played for any length of time.
for now it's done. when it will get 'finished' is anybody's guess

Re: mastery m7.1 with jazz/jag trem piece...?
that is a real cool looking axe!
i love parts bin guitars... every attempt at assembling my own partscasters in the past have always ended up with being fancy and expensive guitars (which makes me feel a bit uncomfortable).
this is due to the fact that i don't really have a real parts bin, so i have to buy every part i need every time i start a new build.
on the other side, i kinda hate having leftover parts not meant to be used on a specific project...
that means that i will never find a balance, poor me...
