...got a Duesenberg Les Trem II
OK i got one of these and put it on my old Explorer.
Installation was child-easy and done in 5 minutes, with no extra holes or mods. Really cool.
It looks great, feels solid and holds the tuning well, even after massive use with the standard tune-o-matic bridge.
I'm very very pleased, but will report back in a couple days/weeks to see if i changed my mind - don't expect it, though.
So far it seems like a very good investment of those 70 Euro to upgrade a hardtail guitar.
DANG and i've sold quite some good ones because of that...

I keep hearing really good things about the Les Trem 2. More and more, I think it has to be one of the best vibratos out there between what I've heard about the stability and how it keeps in tune, and the no modifications part. Pretty reasonably priced too.

I keep thinking to get one of those. There's a chance that I'll sell the hunk of weight that is my Bigsby B7 and purchase one of these instead.

Re: ...got a Duesenberg Les Trem II
I just put one of these on a sweet Matsumoku Vantage I got and I agree that it is a very nice vibrato. I was concerned that the stock brass notched LP type bridge saddles wouldn't play well with trem action but they actually rock in the bridge enough to mostly negate ill effects. As I sit and play on the Les Trem I find myself casting frowning glances over at my Mustang, with its creaky springs and bulky cigar that refuses to come back to pitch properly...

I would think about getting these to go with the Starcaster I am hoping to buy soon. Glad to hear there are positive thing being said about them.
Also...
I looked at this as an option to bolt down to the body of a Danelectro. I realize it wasn't designed to be mounted flush to the body but does it seem like there is any reason this might not work? I thought I might ask since sounds like a few of you have actually held the trem in your hands.

What kind of Danelectro? I'd be concerned about the softness of the wood personally.secondhand wrote:I would think about getting these to go with the Starcaster I am hoping to buy soon. Glad to hear there are positive thing being said about them.

i must mention, the placement of the arm takes time to get used to - me being used to the Jag/Jazzy one. But i think in a couple weeks it'll be no longer noticeable...

Can't you adjust it to taste? It looks like the knurled knob part that holds the trem arm has a set screw in it...Pacafeliz wrote:i must mention, the placement of the arm takes time to get used to - me being used to the Jag/Jazzy one. But i think in a couple weeks it'll be no longer noticeable...

I'm starting to think I could have saved some dough by getting one of these instead of the vibramate/B5 I put on my Blacktop Jag.

I'm not trying to rub salt in our collective wounds, but it looks pretty nice on an offset, too...Larry Mal wrote:Me too, and I'm starting to think I could have been happier.

This vibrato is basically the same kind used on all those Teiscos from years past. A class 2 lever with the strings anchored in a pivoting fulcrum. There are still plenty of that type running around out there for anyone who wants to take a stab. The one thing they lack is the Les Trem's ability to mount to a LP style guitar with no modification.

Re: ...got a Duesenberg Les Trem II
I just installed one on my LP style guitar. Very happy with it so far, though I'm still working through a few minor things.
- I'm sometimes pulling the G string out of tune with bends. Since this is new, I'm guessing its slipping then getting stuck over the bridge now that there's a little more string between the bridge and tailpiece. Might try and remedy with a cheap roller bridge at some point.
- The knob that holds the arm sits rather close to the bridge (my guitar doesn't have as much space as that Jag above), which just takes some getting used to.
- The nut the controls the resistance in the arm swinging wont stay in a middle ground position. It came tight enough that arm stayed put without a fair amount of force, making it difficult to push out of the way or pull back into use while playing. If you loosen it just a bit it'll continue loosening itself until the arm is swinging freely and flopping about. Still considering what I might to do fix that.
- Also it does add a fair amount of width to the guitar. It doesn't fit in the new hardshell case I just got last winter

Yeah, the fact that it renders a fitted case useless is kind of a bummer. I discovered that as well. as for the proximity of the knob to the bridge, have you tried doing subtle bends by simply pushing down on that? If you don't want to hold the arm while you play or have to go fishing for it, just palming the knob down is a handy way to get a little bend in quick.
