Post by Singlebladepickup » Fri Jun 23, 2017 8:17 pm

This is a dumb quesion, but I wanted to know if I need split shaft or solid shaft knobs for the rothstein jazzmaster prb kit I'm about to order. I'm looking for witch hats that fit. Thanks

If you're going with witch hats, go for the solid shaft.

I searched for those too and didn't find any.. only the fender cream white ones..

Edit: saw those: http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/guit ... tchhat.htm which looked quite white but the numbers are incorrectly upside down

Edit2: seems like they're from Allparts

So I can use either, but split shaft is less preferred?

You just want solid shaft for knobs with a set screw (like witch hats), or split shaft for press on knobs (like strat knobs). Tightening a set screw on split shaft knobs is less than ideal, but will just bend it or flatten the knurls. But it can be done. You can also buy small brass conversion bushings to slide over the split shaft to prevent damage from a set screw.

All the witch hats I see besides fender pure vintage '65 are split shaft. I guess I could look into bushings...

I bought a set of witch hats on ebay from Maddison. I did have to alter the shaft to fit the pots shaft as they sat a few mills off the guard.
