Starcaster swoosh/step down headstocks
I really like the starcaster headstock and am planning something similar for a build but want more inspiration.
I know they did the same headstocks on marauders and bilt guitars do the same/very similar headstocks.
I know there are heaps of builders that do them but every time i go looking i cant remember them.
So who does them?

Re: Starcaster swoosh/step down headstocks
Warmoth has one they call the "Mooncaster"- I ordered one from them for an upcoming project and you can specify just about anything you want with them (types of wood, radius, with or without nut of your choice, fret sizes, finished or unfinished, etc). I wasn't totally happy with the headstock shape, and since mine was unfinished, I went ahead and did some mild re-shaping to make it closer to the Fender shape. Quality is really good, can't wait to get in on my planned build! A little pricey, but worth a look anyway.

The first couple of Motoriks had modified versions - the 2nd (green) one was much shorter and ended in a sharp uptick rather than the normall bellend.
Still really miss that guitar

Fender did one on a Jazzmaster, a 1966 "Prototype".

Re: Starcaster swoosh/step down headstocks
I've been in the process of making this at school, it was meant to be more classic starcaster but closer to tele proportions but my teachers were a bit worried because they've had problems with fender looking headstocks. Ironically I've ended up copying 2 headstocks instead of 1.
I had a look at these and they're pretty interesting but I'm building from scratch, and interestingly not as many options on it as i'd expect from warmothdanp3man wrote:Warmoth
I love these guitars so much! Huge fan of all the motorik guitars, and I think the headstock on this is really nice. I've been struggling to design starcaster shaped headstocks that don't look a bit bellend-y or too pointy... or too shoe-y. It's a surprisingly difficult headstock to get right.theworkoffire wrote:Motoriks
I wonder how life would be different if fender went with that headstock for jazziesMrFingers wrote:Prototype
Looked these up and they're really nice, I'll probably end up with something closer to this than a starcaster honestly.Toots wrote:Cave and Canary does a few different versions
A guy in my class (guitar building @ NCAT, are you familiar w/ that course p.s?) is making something suuuper similar to that, looks nice but its super heavy now that it has tuners and stuff on itCROSS_guitars wrote:I made this one based off a Kustom Kraft headstock

I really don't like Tele headstock but I really dig this one.dylanafghjkl wrote:I've been in the process of making this at school, it was meant to be more classic starcaster but closer to tele proportions but my teachers were a bit worried because they've had problems with fender looking headstocks. Wow- this is really cool looking! I think I'll try to modify and old repro Fender neck I have stored to try and duplicate this treatment. Thanks for sharing!MrFingers wrote:Fender did one on a Jazzmaster, a 1966 "Prototype".

Re: Starcaster swoosh/step down headstocks
Love these swoosh/stepdown headstocks too. Look great on the Starcasters, Bilts and saw one on some of the guitars from a company called Pure Salem. If you were to take an existing headstock and try to mod it, what kind of tool would you use for swoosh/recessed part? Imagine you'd probably need a template rather try to do freehand.
