ThePearDream, the new schematic looks good! I think the first one would've worked fine, but I think a bit of isolation for that capacitor won't hurt a bit either! Let us know how it sounds!

Okay, I have another one for you. Trying to figure these out is teaching me a lot, but I'd still appreciate some feedback from someone more knowledgeable than me.
I was thinking that while I do use the rhythm circuit, I never turn the tone down. I thought I might be able to mimic the load from the 50k tone pot on full, by using a fixed resistor on a switch (since the switch is the only part of the rhythm circuit I ever touch). This evolved into the idea of a switch to choose between the normal lead tone control and a "full on" rhythm tone. Ideally, I'd use a Push/Pull. I'm not sure if the cap is necessary or not, but included it just to get as close as possible to the rhythm tone control. I know the rhythm circuit controls function slightly different than the lead circuit, but I thought this would get pretty close and allow for an easy way to add a rhythm circuit tone, with less components.

That one is a bit beyond me. We've had discussions about rhythm circuits on a switch before, and I think yours comes closer than any I've seen before, but I truly don't know. With some of the earlier iterations, the issue was that the capacitor wouldn't act the same as the capacitor AND the pot, but what I think yours is doing is acting as a second set of volume/tone pots without the dark capacitor, with a switch for just the dark tone capacitor, right?
Also, you said you're not sure if the capacitor was necessary. Were you referring to the pot cap or the cap that goes to ground from the switch?

The cap is doing nothing there, just a 50k to ground is all you need since you are just simulating the loading effect of the pot on the pickups, but it would achieve your goal as drawn.
As drawn you are creating a lowpass filter with a cutoff of 145 hertz, rhythm circuit with tone rolled all the way back, but it is effectively out of circuit, the desired loading effects are present though. If you wanted it keep the cap and exploit it as well you would grab its output from the junction of the cap and resistor.
With the 50K in circuit the loading it induces on the pickup more or less mimics that of an RC lowpass filter with a cutoff of 1khz or so, actual cutoff depends on the exact pickup. The initial roll off of the filter is abit more gentle than that of a standard RC filter but it gets up to the standard -6db per octave fairly quickly.

Logic gates based on billiard-ball computer designs have also been made to operate using live soldier crabs of the species Mictyris guinotae in place of the billiard balls.

Thank you Shadoweclipse13 and oid. Oid is correct, I am trying to simulate the loading effect of the 50k tone pot. I am just using a fixed resistor instead of a variable resistor. And the switch is just selecting which resistor is in the circuit; variable 1Meg (lead) or fixed 50k (rhythm)
I found a 20 pack of 51k resistors for $1.55 and have spare switches, so I will try this out and report back with the results. Thanks again to both of you.

I just took out the strangle switch on my overly bright thinline sparkle Talman and put in the rhythm/lead tone switch. It does seem to work.
I tweaked the diagram a bit and did it like this:
I'll test it out again on my pink Jazzcaster (it has JM pickups) soon, so I can A/B it against my VM Jazzmaster and get a better sense of how accurate it is.

No clips, it's the same sound as the tone knob turned down to 1-2. I can see this being a really easy & useful mod; and it's certainly much cheaper and simpler than a traditional rhythm circuit setup.

Ok, I had a chance to pop one of the tone switches into my pink Jazzcaster and compare it to my VM Jazzmaster. It wasn't an exact comparison, since my VM has flatwounds on it. Anyway, my switch seems to be just a hair brighter than the rhythm circuit on full. I played around on both guitars that I put this in and the VM Jazz and I would say it gives pretty close to the same result as an A1M tone pot set to 3, where the rhythm circuit seems to be more like an A1M set to 1.5ish. Resistors are cheap, so I may continue experimenting with some different values and some alligator clips and do some fine tuning. As is though, I think it's useful to be able to do a quick switch between the two tones.

Also, incase you're looking for the all together sounds (B+M+N) as well as the combos (B+N) and the separate sounds (just B, just M, just N), I came up with a system a while back that works really well:
Using 2 3-way switches (can be Mustang-style sliders like I have here, or 3-way toggles as well), you can have all the pickups together (B+M+N), all of them separate (B, M, N), and any combination of 2 (B+M, B+N, M+N). Just throwing the idea out there. Otherwise, I'll draw up what you requested in a day or so
