Welcome to planet Earth. Nevermind the fact you're taking a shot at "these forums" based on a guy who signed up two days ago vs. the numerous positive comments and replies this contest has gotten from the rest of the community.Texas Toast wrote:There are more horse's asses than there are horses.

Clearly, you don't know that I am a delicate snowflake... and I base my self worth on the things that are said on this forum.
Have fun looking for things to bitch about.
I have guitars to build.

I like all four. I really do.
It took me quite a while to commit to my vote, as I kept talking myself into each of the three for various reasons.
Well done, all of you.

I wasn't trying to start a fight I was just pointing out a fact. Asking a genuine question makes me an asshole? Sorry, SonicChris went over the limit and he knew it. I know I'm pretty new here, but I thought the rules were pretty clear. Dougk said he was going to be strict about cost. Is this just how the community works here? I was just asking a question. I'll leave it up to Dougk and the contestants.

I'm going to let it slide because:joe1967 wrote:dougk wrote:You have 400 dollars to spend as your cap. This includes materials, parts, templates if you buy them, screws, pickups and a cheap case. . . This is simply can you build a new guitar, using new parts from quality sources for 400 dollars. One contestant should be disqualified, right? The rules clearly say the cap was $400, not ballpark 400. That was the whole point of the challenge. Seems unfair to the other contestants that didn't break the rules.Sonichris wrote:I went over by $28.45. It was trem that put me over. I thought about adding the trem after the contest, but decided I'd rather build it the way I wanted it - $29 over or not.
1. He was honest about it
2. The guitar would still be functional with a 5 dollar tailpiece instead of the trem.

You need to do this challenge again in the future... I'm pretty sure the project I'm working on would fall under the $400 threshold... I'd have to sit down and double check everything though... How do you handle things you've had in your parts bin so long that record of how they came into your possession doesn't exist and you would have to guess an approximate value?
I finally finish building a guitar, go to play it, and then remember, "oh yeah, that's right. I suck at playing... Why did I build another guitar again?"

I keep thinking the voting for this should be over and wanting a winner to be announced and then realizing that there are still a few more days to go...

What a handful of cool guitars... Hard to believe anyone can build a guitar for sub 400 bucks... I guess labor was not included... Some really great stuff!
