I would suggest putting down some tape around the holes when you go to enlarge them, might help keep the finish from flaking there.

I changed up the title to better reflect my concern. I'm don't think it's an issue of whether I get an allparts guard or not. Just wondering if it's common and/or fine that my thimble holes don't line up in the center of my pickguard holes.

As long as the guard fits over the thimbles, I wouldn't worry. The bridge will likely cover it anyways. :) If you needed to, you could always enlarge the pickguard holes a bit if needed.

Oh and on my MJT body I used a Japanese Jazzy pickguard. :) See how the bridge holes line up?

thanks for that! yeah that seems to verify that the japanese pickguard is the proper fit for the MJT jazzmaster body.

Hopefully I can make it work with the avri one I have. I just got a spitfire tort from BST and it's the purrrrrfect color. Seems weird to me that the bodies would use the template of a MIJ but hey, first world problems haha. I'll just hope that after I install the thimbles, that the pickguard clears, or I'll take a file to it

Can confirm the thimble holes are in slightly different positions on Fender Japan vs AVRI/vintage spec bodies.

This is definitely the worst part of trying to use an Allparts guard on a US spec body (and presumably vice versa).

in case anyone else is wondering, I can confirm that an MIJ pickguard fits perfectly on an MJT jazzmaster body. Not only do the bridge holes line up, but I didn't realize how close to the control cavities the avri pickguard's edges were.
