Deed_Poll wrote:I concur! Very nice. I can definitely see the Grosh influence, it also reminds me of an EVH in the lower bout, which is a guitar that is a favourite amongst those looking for something a little smaller in the body.

I do my plates the same way from brass stock and then have them plated and polished by a specialist. Your plate design is very nice!

That idea mounting the humbucker using a pickguard but only as far as the mounting claw has occurred to me before and it's great to see how well it works here. I also very much like the surfacing on your belly contour.

Top work!
Yes, I did look at the EVH guitar, i kinda like the form, But I really, really prefer solid metallic to almost everything else.
I did ask a local plating company, But its not the same today as it used to be. 10 years ago you bought some cockies and they just sneaked your parts in.
Not anymore. DIY electroplating did actually work, but it was to timeconsuming and I had to redo and redo, after two days of trying I only had one of four plates done.. Hardest part was to remove the nickel again..

Thanks!

Me to like that headstock. But I will design a headstock of "my own".. it´s in the pipeline.. Thankyou!

Sure I´m taking orders - estimated delivery 2019, how´s that? :D

:D I'm borrowing your reply there for the next time a friend asks me to build them a guitar. Your guitars here look amazing, btw. Reminds me of a leaner (and more attractive, imo) Ibanez Talman.

That's a sweet design! Really well done. I've been thinking about making my own plates in the future. Just wondering about your process, what did you use to cut them out and final shape them?

Thankyou!

I cut the pieces (2mm brass) with a Jigsaw, an older version of the machine in the pic, with a fine blade for light metalwork.

Cleaned up with files and then shaped it on my spindlesander.

I have no experience in (or machines for) metalworking, but from a woodworkers point of view it´s kind of fun as the material is somewhat predictable.
The downside is it takes forever.. Forever is in this case 1 1/2 hour for each plate - from stock to polished.

I did a testpiece in alu, and it´s quicker to work for sure, but don´t polish as well.
I tried stainless steel, as that is possible to polish to mirror finish, but I gave that up as soon as i put the saw into it.

I got several scratches in the brass when i cut it - but it´s no problem to sand them away - 350 - 600- 800- 1200 -2000 grit, then machinepolished it.
Not difficult at all, but kind of "extremly boring" and an aching armbow..

But I have since bought a small CNC machine and hope to cut for the next guitars on that one - We´ll see bout that..

My intention was to have the brass nickelplated - But it was really difficult to do it at home - the process isn´t to complicated, but what´s hard is to not contaminate the brass before one dips it into the electrolytbath. I cleaned and cleaned with every chemical supplied and any other I could think of, but only managed to get one piece ok.
Also, once nickelplated, it´s extremly hard work to remove the nickel from the brass to do another try, the nickellayer is really thin, but it sticks there like crazy..

So the plates are now just polished, and they´ll probably soon turn green or something cause I never put any lacquer on. So if you want a polished brasslook someone else have to jump in and give advice about that. I don´t know. For nickel or chromeplating I think it´s really easier to just go and get it done by a professional..

i think the ONLY thing i would change on this would be to have the top of the pickguard more "mustang-ish" and put the toggle on the underside of the strings.

great job!

Very, very Thanks! and as for professionally - Here is a few pics of that..

Both bodies have been refinished at least three times each. It led to me building a spraying booth and
buying a hvlp-system at the end.

And when things did go well - I was pleased with the finish of this neck.

Thanks, and I appreciate your input. Do you mean the curve of the plastic part, or the shape of the metal?

The top brasspiece is what i like most on the build so that´s not likely to change wery much,
But, there is a visual problem with the upper horn and I will make some changes to that, and the pickguard will follow, so You
might well have a point.

I´m a bit short on time here, so let me get back to some details about the design later. There are 2 Major things that needs to change.
A few small tweaks - and a visually HUGE problem that I have no idea how to adress..
