Making Jag-style Plates for Jazzmaster

Post by chipbutty24 » Sat Feb 16, 2019 7:23 pm

Contemplating what it would take to make a Jaguar-ish pickguard with metal plates for a Jazzmaster. Conditional upon being 100% reversable and not needing to route of otherwise modify the body. I’m ok with some additional screw holes. Here is my first crack at drawing up the dividing lines. Comments and suggestions welcome.

I’ve been interested in this idea as well. I have seen it done, so it is feasible. If it was commercially available I would certainly buy it.

I have been looking for pics but no luck. Any links you could provide?

I've been thinking about this as well. Your upper plate looks ok, but I'd maybe make it a bit shorter. The lower plate, on the other hand, is taking it a bit too far from the overall design; I'd move the pot holes further back which would allow you to shape it like a Jag plate.

I had a go a few years back. I wanted to keep the same screw holes and also go for a Marauder style trem plate. The difficulty is always with where the knobs go on a JM, very different position than on a Jag!

Anyway, here's what I came up with
