Carved Top Toronado
Been doing a bit of work on carved top hollows with flat backs (upside-down thinline construction allows me to incorporate a carved top) and got to wondering what a carved top / carved top hollow Toronado would look like. And here's the result!
And in goldtop gold
I stupidly saved the little pickup mounting "rings" on the same layer as the binding so they had to be the same colour! In reality I'd probably lean towards doing these in 1-ply black. Other pickup options would be very simple to implement with the way I designed it - the pickup plane is basically flat on the body, then it gently carves down with a slight recurve all around the body.
It's mostly flat under the pickguard (where the screws are, at least, except for the bracket) but the pickguard overlaps slightly around the edge, hence the bracket, and slightly on the treble horn also. I think with 3 screws plus a bracket it shouldn't be too flimsy.
Anyway, all comments welcome and appreciated! Cheers

I didn't like Toronados before that one.
So my comment is : very well done, you made it attractive to my eyes

Re: Carved Top Toronado
Not bad for a Toronado but the shape still needs a slimer waist and a longer butt (sorry, I can't find another word...).

I like it a lot! It’s one of the few Fender/Gibson mashups that does it for me.

wow this is absolutely beautiful, i've always been kinda "eh" about toronaodos and very "eh" about les paul vibe guitars but this is definitely better than the sum of its parts

I love this. Like others, I've never been a fan of the Toronado shape. But it's awesome as a thinline. This is super tempting.

Some pictures of the recessed channel-bound ply back. It will allow for back roundovers of up to 1/2" without being visible from the sides of the body.
This is what's going on under the neck heel, so that the screws go entirely through the core / top wood
Obviously it would need rear-route covers for the controls, which I haven't modelled here.
Would this turn you off? I've always quite liked the idea of a solid colour top and a sunburst back and neck!

Re: Carved Top Toronado
OK, now I'm officially drooling . . . . . . in (semi) transparent dark red please with black 3 ply guard and chrome hardware . . . roasted maple neck, headstock veneered and finished the same as the body . . . . P.. L.. .. E.. .. .. A.. .. .. .. S.. .. .. .. .. E
OK, I have to agree with Zork that the body is a little bit chubby but . . . . I just don't care .. ... .... .....
The only change I would make is to use this bridge (just not a fan of TOM type/stop tail combinations) which possibly also visually alleviates some of the 'chubbiness' due to the larger 'empty space' behind the end of the strings.

When thinking about any advice given always ask yourself "why would (s)he know more than I do".

Wow...really neat...I think if the upper horn was stretched just a bit/given a little more roundness on the player side it would really look amazing.

I think it looks really cool as is. If someone actually made something like this I’d have a really hard time trying not to buy it...

Re: Carved Top Toronado
I’m surprised that fender hasn’t attempted a reissue of the Toronado. I mean, with the surge in popularity over offset designs and the modern features of the guitar itself, it’s sure to attract an audience.
