How do I lubricate a Jazzmaster truss rod?

Post by WillyP » Fri Jun 17, 2016 6:55 pm

Hello.

I just bought a 2012 Fender Classic PLayer Jazzmaster online and the neck has too much relief, but the truss rod does not want to turn anymore. Before I take it into the shop to have it looked at I want to see if the truss rod just needs a little lubrication. Can anyone who has done this before tell me how to?

Thanks.

Lubrication by the owner is not generally required. Rather it sounds like the rod on your guitar is 'maxed out' in terms of what it's capable of doing.

A rod's effectiveness can be increased (somewhat) by the use of washers placed between the adjustment nut and the rod end.

This thread includes diagrams to better explain what i mean: http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... hp?t=53819

Thanks Andy.

Thats what I thought.

I bought the guitar on Reverb.com and I'm trying to return it. The seller didn't mention any truss rod issues. He said it must have happened during shipping. Whatever! He also told me it was lighter than it is, which is an issue for me with any guitar, so the guitar isn't worth the trouble.
