Re: Strings that don't break?
Where do the strings break? If by the nut, then the slots will need attention. If they are snapping by the bridge, that too will need looking at. Where ever the strings touch the body, the those slots etc need be smooth and good fitting. Using lubrication at those spots helps the guitar to sing without being caught by a poorly cut nut.
I use D'Addario 11's on my short scales. I've never snapped a string on those guitars and they take some heavy percussive playing at times. They are stock, Jag with difficult bridge- took me several nights to get it right; I almost gave up. Now it is settled, strings never jump on the bridge; I deepened the slots on all the bridge saddles. The nut was difficult; shaping nuts is a fine art (I don't have; took 4 attempts). Now all strings on contact points are lubricated and the trem glides back and forth as Leo intended.

Fender Bullet .009-.042, have been using those for over 10 years now since the .009-.040 sets stopped being made. I have maybe only broken about 3-4 of those in the 15 years I've been playing Offsets - and those guitars see more use than any other in the house.

Re: Strings that don't break?
All strings are prone to breakage, so it's down to two things. Either your guitar needs some attention, or it's your playing.
A third thing could be, that you don't change your string often enough, and you either sweat a lot, or you have greasy hands, leaving your strings dirty, and resulting in dead strings, which are more likely to break.

GHS Boomers are wound differently near the bridge-end than most, and I hardly ever have breaks since I started using them on my Jag.
